The explanation about that is merely said as an object, not as a cause of the object. Also, in the perfectly endowed teachings, addressing those who wander everywhere, carrying staffs, and are disheveled, saying "Past actions, as well as cessation, extinction, separation, and transformation, whatever exists," this is also to show that that continuum has the ability to generate the ripening of the previous actions that guided and established it. If it were not so, it would not become past, because it exists as its own nature. Furthermore, the Blessed One said in the sutra on the ultimate truth of emptiness, "Monks, when the eye arises, it does not come from anywhere, and when it ceases, it does not gather anywhere. Therefore, monks, the eye arises from not having arisen, and having arisen, it will again perish." This would be contradictory. To this, the Vaibhashikas are not harmed by those distinctions, because the nature of dharmas is profound and not the domain of speculation, so they answer. Also, some afflictions, even if they abandon themselves, still exist, because the object that is their target has not been abandoned, so the object will not be separated. What are those? (The difference between abandonment and separation is, if one abandons something, is one separated from it? If one is separated, has one abandoned it? Abandonment is the cessation of attainment, and separation is the abandonment of the subject. Therefore, being separated from what, one has abandoned that thing, but there are cases where one has abandoned but not separated, such as when the knowledge of suffering has arisen, but the knowledge of the origin has not arisen.) Even if one has abandoned what is to be abandoned by seeing the truth of suffering (those exist as their object), the remaining co-emergent afflictions that are aimed at by what is to be abandoned by seeing the truth of suffering, and the co-emergent afflictions that are to be abandoned by seeing the truth of the origin, are associated through the way of the object; similarly, even if one has abandoned the greatest of the great aspects of the first dhyana (or whatever is appropriate), the remaining defilements of the subject that are aimed at it, such as the medium of the great aspects, etc., those afflictions that have not been abandoned are associated in the way of the object. Here, it is not to show that those subjects are associated, but rather, because the subject is associated, even if the object is abandoned, it is still associated, this is the established conclusion, on this issue.

If one abandons the essence, then what possession can attain substantial existence? Therefore, it should be said that it has already been eliminated. Seventh, explaining what dharma (what kind of mind) becomes the object of perception: Here, all objects of perception are summarized into sixteen types. In the three realms, there are five types of what should be abandoned, and the unpolluted dharma. (The unpolluted is also unconditioned.) All perceiving minds are also summarized into these sixteen types. Therefore, if one knows what dharma becomes the object of what mind, one can understand its expansion through the gateway of the object of perception, so this is examined. (Among them, what is abandoned by seeing is composed of the four aggregates, and what is abandoned by meditation is composed of the five aggregates.) Among them, the suffering and the cause of suffering, the abandonment of seeing the origin of suffering, and what should be abandoned by the path of practice, born from the desire realm (together with the co-emergent and accompanying), are (the objects of the five minds): the suffering of the desire realm itself, the abandonment of seeing, and the three kinds (become the object of perception, because the pervasive can also perceive other categories, and the non-pervasive afflictions perceive their own categories, and the pure abandonment of meditation can perceive all three). And the abandonment of meditation belonging to the form realm (because it is said that there are nine kinds of virtuous objects, so it is the virtuous dharma of the abandonment of meditation) one kind (also becomes the object of perception, because the mind born in the form realm can see the desire realm, and the path of detachment from desire that arises here can also perceive the desire realm). And the undefiled dharma (suffering and origin), the realm of activity of the five consciousnesses corresponding to the aspect of the dharma knowledge. (Because other than these, others cannot perceive, for example, the defiled dharma of cessation and the abandonment of seeing only perceive their own category, and the afflictions of the upper realm cannot perceive the lower realm, and the virtuous dharma of the abandonment of meditation in the formless realm is also far from the desire realm because of the four distances.) The three kinds of suffering, the abandonment of seeing, etc., born from the form realm are (the objects of the eight minds): the three kinds of the form realm itself, and the lower desire realm (the two pervasive of the unequal realm, and the virtuous dharma of the abandonment of meditation, the virtuous dharma born from hearing, thinking, and meditation that perceives this, and the aspiration, correct view, etc. are the same), three kinds, and one kind of the abandonment of meditation in the upper formless realm, and the corresponding undefiled dharma of subsequent knowledge.
