Depending on their respective locations and higher locations, both types of increase, object-related and co-emergent, vary accordingly. The remaining sixty-two are definitely present in both types of increase. Since object-related increase is pervaded by co-emergent increase, it is not the case that there is only (object-related) increase. Fourth, the distinction between unwholesome and indeterminate is that all the afflictions of the upper two realms are obscured and indeterminate (because they are subdued by meditative stabilization and cannot produce a fully ripened result), and are afflicted. Because there is no unwholesome above, and if there were unwholesome, its fully ripened result would be suffering, but suffering is also absent in the upper two realms. This is because there is no cause for harming others, such as harmful thoughts. It is also impossible for afflictions to become virtuous and unobscured. Master Āryadeva believes that the afflictions of the upper two realms are indeterminate because they possess calm abiding and are close to pacification. As it says in the Compendium of Topics: "What is indeterminate due to being close to pacification? It is the afflictions that operate in the form and formless realms, because they possess calm abiding." In the desire realm, the three types of ignorance—view of the transitory collection, view of extremes, and the ignorance that simultaneously accompanies these two—are obscured and indeterminate. How so? Because the view of the transitory collection and the view of permanence do not contradict virtuous actions such as giving and keeping moral discipline; one engages in giving and moral discipline for the sake of one's own happiness in this life and the next. The view of annihilation is also in accordance with liberation, as it says in the Sutra on the Ten Supreme Qualities: "Among the views of the non-Buddhists, there is this view: 'May I not exist, may what is mine not exist, may I not arise, may what is mine not arise.' This view is the most supreme." Furthermore, these two views are not unwholesome because they are completely ignorant of the appropriated aggregates that belong to one's own continuum, so they are not ignorant of their own nature, and because they do not involve harming others. They are also not virtuous, because they are afflicted. The reason is

These are also the same as the ignorance that is similarly possessed by those two. Former teachers thought that if this were the case, then attachment to existence in the heavens and the pride of "I am" would also become unrecordable, because those reasons are the same. Therefore, those two views, which are innate, even wild animals and birds have, are obscured and unrecordable. (For example, the situation of being frightened by accidentally hearing a sound.) The pervasively conceived by the naked and the crumb-eaters, etc., are considered to be evil. In the "Collection of Distinguishing Determinations" it says: There are two kinds of view of the aggregates: innate and pervasively conceived. Among them, the first is that of all infants and even birds and beasts. The second is regarded as belonging to other heretics. There are also two kinds of clinging to extremes, among which the clinging to extremes that is included in the view of permanence, among the sixty-two views, is those who cling to the former extreme, those who say that things are permanent, and some who say that things are permanent, and those who cling to the latter extreme, those who say that there are perceptions, and those who say that there are no perceptions, and those who say that there are neither perceptions nor non-perceptions. The clinging to extremes that is included in the view of annihilation is that of the ascetics and Brahmins who say that things are annihilated by seven things. Those clinging to extremes are only pervasively conceived, and the innate view of the aggregates of desire is unrecordable, because it is constantly and repeatedly occurring, and it is not a place of great harm to oneself and others. Because it is said in the sutras that what is manifestly clung to by discrimination is evil. If this is the case, then the desire and pride, etc., of the desire realm also become innate, obscured, unrecordable, and pervasively conceived, evil, and there is also evil in the upper realms, because there are pervasively conceived views such as the view of the aggregates. If not, then it would appear that there is nothing to be abandoned on the path of seeing, this must be refuted. The subtle defilements of desire, etc., the remaining ones of the view of the aggregates and the clinging to extremes (except for the first two views and their corresponding subtle defilements), should be known to be evil in this desire realm.
