If so, then the question called "Is it so?" should also be understood for the following contents. (Here it is considered that the actual entry into wrong views of the first two to be abandoned by seeing is pervasive, and the others are not.) Among them, the five views to be abandoned by seeing the truth of suffering, and the two views to be abandoned by seeing the truth of origin, as the seven views are all pervasive, so are the two doubts to be abandoned by seeing these two truths, and whatever views and doubts, whatever ignorance that is simultaneously possessed with these, and the ignorance that is not mixed with other root afflictions, namely the two to be abandoned by seeing the truth of suffering and the truth of origin, thus, the eleven subtle afflictions are all pervasive, because they universally focus on the five kinds of afflictions to be abandoned in the same realm, and (they) are the cause of generating (them). Therefore, only the views and doubts of the first two truths, and the ignorance that is simultaneously possessed and not mixed are pervasive, while the ignorance that is simultaneously possessed with desire, etc., is not pervasive. The so-called pervasive in the same realm is because those afflictions of the desire realm focus on all of the desire realm. (The reason for establishing the views of the first two truths, etc., separately as pervasive is that they focus on all contaminated dharmas of their own ground, and their accumulation is stable and powerful, while those to be abandoned by seeing the truth of cessation and the truth of path are not like that. The four to be abandoned by meditation are afflictions of their own characteristics, so they cannot focus on all contaminated objects, so they are not pervasive.) If so, then do they focus on all of their own realm gradually or simultaneously? If it is the former, then desire, etc., will also become pervasive, if it is the latter, then it is impossible for all of the desire realm to cling to purity, etc., so the adherence to ethics and vows, etc., are also not pervasive (the five views are also). If you say that it is impossible to focus on all things, but it is possible to focus on the five kinds of afflictions to be abandoned by seeing the truth of suffering in the desire realm, etc., and all of them can cling to purity, etc. If so, then among the five aggregates of grasping as objects, whichever has the view of self, then whichever has the self

There is also craving, and that is also desire. Whatever is regarded as the cause of excellence and liberation is pursued, and from this, pride arises, so desire and pride also become co-emergent. These views are directed towards all realms of equal share. If one asks, since these two defilements also enter the realm of views, the Vaibhashikas answer: Although that is so, desire and pride are directed towards one aspect, being self-characterized and not common, therefore they are not co-emergent. This is because co-emergence is understood as simultaneously targeting all five categories of what is to be abandoned. Therefore, desire and pride that target what is to be abandoned by seeing are what is to be abandoned by seeing, and what targets what is to be abandoned by meditation is what is to be abandoned by meditation. This is what is accepted. The teacher holds that desire and pride that arise due to the power of views to be abandoned by seeing are what is to be abandoned by seeing, and what arises due to the power of defilements to be abandoned by meditation is what is to be abandoned by meditation. Alternatively, the two that target what is to be abandoned by seeing are what is to be abandoned by seeing, and what targets the root of both is what is to be abandoned by meditation. Among the eleven subtle defilements, nine are directed towards the upper realms, the realms of unequal share, and are therefore co-emergent with the realms of unequal share, except for the view of the aggregates as a real self and the view of holding to extremes. That is, viewing one's own aggregates as self and viewing it as permanent or annihilated are the view of the aggregates as a real self and the view of holding to extremes, because the continuums and aggregates of the lower and upper realms are different. Holding moral discipline and asceticism as supreme is directed towards the upper realms because it also enters into others besides one's own continuum. As it says in the scriptures: Sometimes it is directed towards one realm of unequal share, sometimes towards two, such as those with desire directed towards those with form, those with desire directed towards those without form, and those with desire directed towards those with both form and formlessness. Therefore, all co-emergents except for the first two views target the upper realms, while those that are not co-emergent do not. All defilements of the upper realms and grounds also do not
