Moreover, these do not arise in noble beings, this is the connection. What does not arise? The conceit of "I am" (Tibetan: ངའོ་སྙམ་པའི་ང་རྒྱལ།), and the nine aspects of conceit, all belong to the category of what is abandoned by meditation, etc., this is how it is connected. The "etc." includes from killing to destruction and the state of existence in between. Why is it that even if these are not abandoned, they do not arise in noble beings? Because these things to be abandoned by meditation grow through the means of views going before. Moreover, those views that initiate and nourish are abandoned merely by seeing the truth, just like a person whose waist is broken cannot stand up. For example, killing and so on grow because of the wrong view of seeing no cause and effect; the nine aspects of conceit, and those included in the category of what is to be abandoned by meditation, the conceit of "I am", also grow and are nourished because of the view of the perishable collection; the craving for destruction grows because of the view of annihilation that clings to extremes; the craving for birth grows because of the view of permanence that clings to extremes. Similarly, regret, which is of an unwholesome nature, is also like this, because it focuses on the actions of body and speech that are to be abandoned by meditation, so it is something to be abandoned by meditation, but this is because regret arises from doubt, so it is initiated by doubt; the initiator, doubt, is also abandoned merely by seeing the truth, therefore it does not arise in noble beings. Some things, even though they are abandoned, are still universally practiced by noble beings, such as worldly faith, sleep, the feeling of suffering, and the eyes and so on, these arise in noble beings born in the desire realm, so the teacher Kamarupa explains. Explanation of the detailed classification of the aspects of latent afflictions Second, explaining the detailed classification of the aspects of latent afflictions, including those that are pervasive and not pervasive, and those that focus on defiled and undefiled, growth and non-growth, the classification of unwholesome and unspecified, and explaining the root of unwholesome and unspecified, and the corresponding reasons, and being objects of the Dharma realm, and the order, and the cause of birth, and the classification of the aspects of defilements and so on mentioned in the sutras, these ten aspects. The first is, among the ninety-eight latent afflictions, which are pervasive and which are not pervasive?
