They say that it is because it is said (in the sutras) to abandon dullness and sleep, excitement and regret, and doubt. Some say that if that were the case, then even for the wheel-turning king and the unpleasant sounds of the north, it would follow that there would be a path of action of covetousness. Therefore, although all desire is covetousness, due to its distinction, only attachment to the wealth of others is a path of action, but not all covetousness is a path of action, because it is a summary of major offenses. They say this. Therefore, the previous explanation is correct. Malice is hatred towards sentient beings, that is, engaging in harm. Viewing that there is no virtuous or non-virtuous action is a wrong view that slanders the cause and effect. Regarding this, the sutra says: There is no giving. There is no sacrifice. There is no burnt offering. There is no good conduct. There is no bad conduct. The ripening of the fruits of actions of good and bad conduct does not exist. There is no this world. There is no other world. There is no mother, no father. There are no spontaneously born beings. There are no Arhats in the world. Thus, it speaks of three slanders against cause and effect, result, and the noble ones. Among them, from "There is no giving" to "There is no bad conduct," and "There is no mother, no father," are slanders against cause and effect. From "The ripening of the fruits of actions of good and bad conduct does not exist" to "There are no spontaneously born beings," are slanders against the result. "There are no Arhats in the world" is a slander against the noble ones. Although all three are wrong views, in the verses, only the first is shown for the sake of symbolic meaning. Thus, among the ten non-virtuous actions mentioned, the three, such as covetousness, are paths of action but not actions, because they are afflictions. Because under their influence, mental activities that are in accordance with, similar to, and corresponding to them arise. The seven actions of body and speech are both actions and paths of action, because they are activities, and the mental activities that motivate them also arise in dependence on these seven actions.

It should also be understood that the same applies to the ten virtues, such as non-greed. Why are the preparatory action and the conclusion not paths of action? Because the preparatory action enters into the meaning of the thing itself, and the conclusion enters into the root of the thing. In short: Good and non-good, as appropriate, The paths of action are said to be ten. Because it is summarized here, it is not a path of action. According to those such as the Sutra school who consider greed and so on to be actions, are they the actions and paths of good and bad destinies? Or, because they lead each other, everything is both action and path. Now, showing the function of wrong view is to slander actions and so on, and with the great perfection of mindless view, it cuts off all roots of virtue. If so, then the scriptures say: What are the great roots of non-virtue? Which roots of non-virtue cut off the roots of virtue? And what are those that are abandoned at the very beginning when one is free from desire? If it is said that this contradicts the above, it is because wrong view arouses all roots of non-virtue, and thereby cuts off the roots of virtue, so it is said like that, just as it is actually a fire, but it is said that thieves burned the village. What roots of virtue are cut off? Those that belong to the desire realm and are innate. Because those with wrong views that cut off virtue do not possess the virtues of the two upper realms of the form and formless realms, and the virtues arising from desire are lost when even a small wrong view arises and one is born as a pleasure god. If so, then the 'Establishment Treatise' says: If someone intentionally kills their parents and wrongly views that there are no karmic results of good and non-good actions, and does not generate even a little regret, then just by this, this person has completely cut off all the roots of virtue in the three realms, how should this be understood? This is because that continuum is not a vessel for that, so it is considered to be the severance of the attainment of virtue in the three realms. What kind of wrong view is it? It is to slander cause and effect, saying that there is no proper conduct and improper conduct, and the actions of proper conduct and improper conduct.
