Because of holding the ten ways of perfection, etc., the word "etc." was spoken. Buddhas and Pratyekabuddhas are perfected by natural manifestation. Ajnatakaundinya, Asvajit, Bhadrika, Vashpa, and Mahanama, these five disciples, enter into certainty, that is, by seeing the truth. Yashas, Subahu, Punarvasu, Gavampati, and Purna, these near five disciples, etc., are because of saying, "Come here, monks." Mahakashyapa merely by promising to be a teacher. Pleasing by questioning is good giving (Good giving, what is the one Dharma to be cherished? It is liberation. What is needed for that? It is faith. As the Panchen Lama said). Pajapati and others, because of promising the eight heavy Dharmas, what are the eight? To receive full ordination from a Bhikshuni, to request teachings from a Bhikshu every half month, not to reside in a place without Bhikshus during the summer, during the summer retreat, to perform the summer retreat with three matters before the two Sanghas, not to discuss the offenses of Bhikshus, not to be angry at the offenses of Bhikshus, for the offenses of the Guru's Dharma (that is, the eight heavy Dharmas), to practice pleasing Dharma every half month, and even a Bhikshuni who is a hundred years old after full ordination should bow to a newly ordained Bhikshu. The one named Royal Dharma Giving, among the consorts, grew like a parrot, with the message of requesting ordination before the Blessed One. Or Saga's wife, Dharma Giving Mother, like the color of a blue lotus, obtained full ordination through a message, etc. Four monks and Vinaya holders and five are people of the borderlands, Vinaya holders, commentators consider to be reciters of precepts, that is, those who recite precepts and perform karma. In the central region, it is a Sangha of ten including the reciter of precepts. The difference between the central and borderlands is within and outside sixty yojanas, from the base of the Vinaya-mula. From the Vajra Throne, the east is the forest where the Likara trees grow, the south is the water river reeds and the place with reed water streams, the west is the village made by the two Brahmin brothers, the pillar and the near pillar.

To the north is a mountain called Ushira, beyond which is said to be the border region, and within which is said to be the center. By reciting the refuge three times, all sixty of the virtuous communities attain full ordination. It is said that the precepts of their full ordination are not eaten by demons and do not depend on other forms (not necessarily dependent on the basis, so they are certainly not dependent on it). (The five sections and names, etc., are due to previous vows, or because of perfect thought, or because of the blessing of the Buddha, even without form, one can obtain the Pratimoksha vows, this is how it is explained.) How long should one uphold them? The end of time has two kinds: the end of life and the end of day and night. Among them, the seven, including the upasaka, are the end of life, until one lives and does not die, while the near-dweller is the end of day and night, and one should properly uphold the precepts for one day and night. If it is said that one upholds them for as long as one lives, but because of the difference in bodies, and also because one has not combined it with the next life, and also because one does not remember, the precepts will not arise, then what reason is there for the near-dwelling precepts not arising under day and night? The sutra only speaks of one day and night, so it is known that there is an obstacle to arising under day and night. If that is the case, then for the time being, did the Teacher teach the near-dwelling precepts of day and night because he saw that the near-dwelling precepts would not arise under day and night? Or is it for those who are difficult to tame and cannot protect for many days? The learned and diligent friend says that such a reason cannot be speculated, because the meaning of taming cannot be understood by someone who is not omniscient. Some precepts are obtained in the Sangha through solicitation and four karmas, and some are obtained from one person merely through solicitation, what reason is there for this? Therefore, one should not seek this reason. It is also not because it depends on those who are difficult to tame, because for those who are most difficult to tame, one should also teach for a moment, day, and night, and it is also not certain that all householders are difficult to tame. The learned and diligent one says this. The learned and diligent one says that the sutra only says so.

However, it is considered reasonable that the upasatha vow arises within a day, just like lifelong vows. There is no vow that is not a one-day vow. Why? Because there is no acceptance of "May I possess non-vows for one day." Therefore, although the Vaibhashikas consider non-vows to be lifelong, if they become non-existent because they are not taken in that way, then lifelong non-vows would also become non-existent, because they are inferior actions and therefore not taken. If one considers that what is taken is the thought of "I will live by killing until the end of my life," then the one-day vow also exists. This is because the Avadana of the Rice Seedling also speaks of one-day vows and non-vows. (The Sutrantikas consider non-virtuous thoughts not to be non-vows.) So, how does one take the upasatha vow? By making "taking" the basis, by whom? Until when? What? When? From whom should it be taken? In order (as much as possible). Because vows do not arise from disrespectful bodily conduct, except for the sick, one should sit on a low seat, either squatting or kneeling, with hands folded or joined. Because minors do not add new decorations, except for minors, one should not adorn oneself with new ornaments. Verbal conduct should be maintained by repeating what the teacher has said. If one speaks as before, there is no meaning of taking the vow, so it cannot be taken from others. The time is in the morning, from dawn until sunrise. The essence is that if the limbs are incomplete, it becomes interrupted, so one must take the eight limbs of the upasatha vow, such as abstaining from killing, because the abstentions are interdependent, as Lord Gampopa explained. Moreover, it should be taken from others in the morning before sunrise and before eating, (so that even if there are obstacles, it will not be violated.) Furthermore, the Vinaya states that it should be taken from a monk, but the Sutra of Steadfastness states that a son or daughter of good family who has faith and wishes to take the upasatha vow with eight branches should rise early in the morning.
