Just like reflections and so on. Alternatively, even if a reflection is formed, it is not an example of illusion because it is different from the sign "because it is a continuous result." This is because a reflection is not a continuous result of the face, but arises from both the face and the mirror. Furthermore, the state of becoming is the sole continuous result of the aggregates of the intermediate state. Therefore, it is shown that saying, "Is the reflection not formed? Or even if it is formed, it is not a continuous result of the face," it is not an uncertain object because a specific sign has not entered. The statement that the state of becoming arises solely from the intermediate state is made in terms of the primary cause. This is because those born from the womb also arise from the intermediate state and external semen and blood, etc. It is also unreasonable to say that semen and blood, etc., are the primary cause, because those born miraculously can arise even without them. Therefore, it is known through reasoning that the intermediate state exists. Proof through scripture is from the Sutra of the Seven Existences, which states: "There are seven existences: the existence of hell, the existence of animals, the existence of hungry ghosts, the existence of gods, the existence of humans, the existence of karma, and the intermediate existence." Because it is explicitly stated in the verse that shows this, it is established that there is an intermediate state. If you say that you do not cite that sutra, then in the Sutra of Entering the Womb and others, it says: "From the manifestation of three conditions, a child will be conceived in the mother's womb. What are the three? The mother is fertile and has menstruation, the parents engage in intercourse and meet, and a gandharva is also nearby." Because gandharva is mentioned, and a gandharva is the intermediate state. If you say that you do not cite "gandharva," but instead cite "the disintegration of the aggregates (a new negation) is nearby," then in the Sutra of the Son of the Drummer, the Blessed One said to the Brahmin Son of the Drummer: "Son of the Drummer, do you know whether the gandharva who is near your Mchis-brang is of the royal caste? Is he a Brahmin? Is he a Vaishya? Is he a Shudra? Or has he come from the east? Or do you know whether he has come from the south, west, or north?"

Because it has been said. To examine the lineage and direction of a decaying aggregate, and that is also unreasonable. In the Vinaya-ksudraka it is said: 'O Joyful One, when parents unite and meet, and the mother is suitable and has her menstruation, and a gandharva (藏文:དྲི་ཟ།,梵文天城体:गन्धर्व,梵文罗马拟音:gandharva,汉语字面意思:smell-seeker) is also near and wishes to enter, O Joyful One, the so-called gandharva is a common term for sentient beings in the intermediate state.' If someone says, 'We do not assert the intermediate state,' then it can be known from the Sutra of the Five Never-Returners. The Blessed One said: 'There are five types of never-returners: those who attain nirvana in the intermediate state, those who attain nirvana after birth, those who attain nirvana without effort, those who attain nirvana with effort, and those who go upwards.' The nirvana in the intermediate state mentioned therein refers to the intermediate state. If someone says, 'That refers to a deity called the intermediate realm or the intermediate being,' then it would follow that those born, etc., would also be deities. Furthermore, in the Sutra Showing the Seven Courses of the Noble Person, by means of three similes, such as dying like a small fire in the morning that gradually diminishes, dying like an iron spark rising into the sky, and dying like an iron spark rising into the sky without falling to the ground, it is illustrated that nirvana in the intermediate state is divided into three types: quick, not quick, and attaining complete nirvana after a long time. Together with the four types of attaining nirvana after birth, etc., a total of seven courses of the noble person are taught. This is also established because the quickness, etc., of the intermediate state are the same as the nirvana after birth, etc. Furthermore, because if it were not so, then it would be said that there is nirvana in the intermediate state even in the formless realm, therefore, in the twentieth verse of the summary of the Explanation of the Hearers' Vinaya, it is stated without mixing: 'Each of the four dhyanas has ten, each of the formless states has seven, each of the consciousnesses has six, thus gathered and well-subdued.' That is, each dhyana has three other abodes, and the five aspects from nirvana in the intermediate state to going upwards, as mentioned earlier, and focusing the mind on the realm of immortality, and mind liberation, are a total of ten.
