Therefore, it is also said in the sutra: Eye consciousness does not cognize blue, but mind consciousness cognizes both blue and the concept of "blue." (Or, it is considered simultaneous only when the former aggregate gives rise to the latter.) Therefore, contact with obstruction is distinguished by the basis, and the second is distinguished by the object. Some say that the five sense consciousnesses engage with objects without relying on words, while mind consciousness engages with objects under the influence of words, so it is an adhivacana, and the corresponding contact is also called adhivacana contact. Therefore, this is said to be distinguished by the accompanying friend. Also, there are three types of contact: contact with knowledge, contact without knowledge, and contact that is neither with knowledge nor without knowledge. These are also, in order, contact without defilements, i.e., without outflows; contact with afflictions; and contact that corresponds to the remaining wholesome with outflows, non-obscured neutral, and non-indicated. Contact without knowledge is also of two types: contact corresponding to malice and subsequent attachment. Furthermore, if all contacts are summarized, there are three: contact that will be experienced as pleasure, contact that will be experienced as suffering, and contact that will be experienced as equanimity. Thus, there are sixteen contacts. After that, feeling is (divided): the feelings arising from those contacts (i.e., arising from the contact of the gathering of the eye, etc.) are six, namely, the feeling arising from the contact of the gathering of the eye, etc. Since the definition of feeling has already been explained, only the distinctions are mentioned here. Of these six feelings, the first five are bodily feelings because they rely on the physical sense organs. This is because the body is considered to be form. Mental feeling relies on the mind, which is other than the eye, etc., because it relies solely on the mind as the dominant cause. If feeling arises from contact simultaneously or after? It is not simultaneous, because for things that are both established, it is unreasonable for there to be both a producer and a produced.

If it arises after that, then the mind with contact will become without feeling. If that is the case, then feeling will not be the many bases of the mind. If someone asks this, the Vaibhashikas will answer that because it is a cause that arises simultaneously, it arises at the same time, just as light arises from a flame and shadow arises from a sprout. The Sutra also says: Relying on the eye and forms, eye consciousness arises, and the contact of the three together, and feeling, perception, and intention arise together. Therefore, it is explained in this way. The Sutrantikas believe that feeling arises after contact. If simultaneous arising is also a cause and effect, then they will mutually become cause and effect. The Sutra says: Relying on the contact arising from the assembly of the eye, feeling arises from the contact arising from the assembly of the eye, and it is not possible for the contact arising from the assembly of the eye to arise from the feeling arising from the contact arising from the assembly of the eye. Because feeling and so on are said to be many bases, it is because they exist in the bases with and without investigation, the bases with only investigation, the bases without investigation, the bases of virtue, the bases of non-virtue, the bases of the unspecified, the bases of learning, the bases of no more learning, and all the bases that are neither of the two, so they are said to be many bases, but they do not pervade all minds. This is what they believe. To this, Bhadanta Shri says that because the mind with contact has feeling arising from the previous moment of contact, feeling and so on will not fail to pervade all minds. This is not correct, because the mind that has just arisen from a mindless state will be without it. Moreover, when another consciousness arises immediately after eye consciousness, there will be no contact and feeling, because it is not reasonable for a consciousness that focuses on another to generate contact and feeling that focus on another. Therefore, if one says that these pervade all minds, one must accept simultaneous cause and effect. Furthermore, the feeling of the mind itself (from its nature, there are three: pleasant feeling, unpleasant feeling, and neutral feeling; from its object, it takes the six objects such as form as its object; from its association, it is associated with intention, etc.), due to the difference in the way intention closely moves, the various aspects are (of pleasant feeling
