There is the fault of entailing contact with what has been eaten and not eaten, as well as encountering. Therefore, they say, "I (Pudgala) am permanent and transfer to another life." Such a permanent "I" that transfers to another existence does not exist, because nothing other than birth existence, etc., can be determined. If it is the nature of those, then it would entail impermanence, because impermanence has been established by valid cognition. A detailed refutation of this should be understood in the refutation of the person. So, what is the linking from the death existence to the rebirth existence? It is merely the continuum of the five aggregates, such as form. The "merely" there is to prevent addition, because there is no self apart from just the aggregates of phenomena. How is it? The continuum of the aggregates of the intermediate existence, which is manifestly accumulated by the afflictions and actions of the previous life, goes to the womb, which has become the place of birth of this life, and thus links to the birth existence. Going to the womb also signifies going to other places of birth, such as warm and moist places. It is not the intermediate existence itself that transfers to the birth existence, but the five aggregates of the birth existence arise in dependence on the aggregates of the intermediate state, and from the time before that, and from the death before that, and from the intermediate state between them, and from the birth existence after that, there is a linking. For example, just as a lamp flame is momentary, but the continuum goes to another place, so it is here as well. Therefore, even though there is no permanent "I," the continuum of aggregates entering the womb is not contradictory. By this example, understanding arises in others from Kāṭhaka, and other examples should also be understood, such as the image arising from a mirror, the bulge arising from a seal, fire arising from a flint, saliva arising from sour taste, and sprouts arising from seeds, which are examples of dependence without transference. The noble Nāgārjuna said: Kāṭhaka, lamp flame, mirror, seal, flint, earth, sourness, and sound, the linking of aggregates also, should be understood by the wise as non-transferring. Thus he said. The same meaning is also stated in the Great Emptiness Sutra: Action exists, and maturation exists. Apart from what is nominally designated as a phenomenon, no agent is perceived who abandons these aggregates and links to other aggregates. Among these, what is nominally designated as a phenomenon is this: Here

For example, because this exists, this arises, and so on. In the Minor Matters Sutra, taking the Brahmin Kashyapa's son as an example, it says, "Here there is no self or sentient being; these dharmas all have causes." And in the Praise of Excellence, it also says, "From body to other bodies, subtle life is transferred; other than your body, there is no life." It also says, "Brahmins proclaim that the cause of beings is the eternal Purusha; you have shown that the so-called eternal cause is actually nothing at all." It also says, "The Samkhya school says with wisdom that beings arise from Prakriti; you have declared that the arising of beings comes from afflictions and karma." If the next life arises from the intermediate state, then what arises from that? Just as the previous karma and afflictions have thrown it, it produces a jelly-like state, a curd-like state, an elongated state, a hardened state, and the sprouting of hands and feet, which are the five stages of the fetus. After that, the six sense bases arise, (and then it is born from the womb), successively experiencing the five stages of birth: infancy, youth, adulthood, decline, and old age, and the continuum of the five aggregates arises. In the Sutra Requested by Yaksha Lord, it says, "How does it gradually become a lump? How does this body gradually grow?" The Yaksha Lord's answer is: "Initially, it is a jelly-like state; from the jelly-like state arises a curd-like state; from the curd-like state arises an elongated (state); from the elongated state arises a hardened state; from the hardened state arises the sprouting of hands and feet, hair, body hair, nails, etc., as well as the colored roots and characteristics, which arise in succession." It is like this. Regarding these, the Section on Matters says: The jelly-like state, etc., is the period of residing in the womb; from birth to crawling in general is the period of birth; from birth to being able to walk and unable to play is the period of infancy; the period of being able to play but unable to engage in desire is the period of youth; from being able to engage in desire up to thirty years old is the period of adolescence; from then until fifty years old is the period of adulthood; from then until seventy years old is the period of old age; from then on is the period of decline (divided into eight periods). It is said like this. Thus.
