Nor is it without reason. Therefore, in the commentary it says: This condition is an additional condition, so it is the master condition. If asked, what is additional about this? Co-emergent dharmas are never objects, but are master conditions, so this is indeed additional. Or it is an additional condition, because all dharmas are the condition of all conditioned things except their own nature. Regarding how conditions produce results, first, in the causal condition, there are five types of causes, among which the two, the co-emergent cause and the corresponding cause, are manifest towards the cessation of the result, and act on the present (because they are mutually the result). The three causes, the equal ripening, the universal going, and the fully ripened, act on the future, being manifest towards the arising of the result. Other than that causal condition, the two, the similar immediately preceding condition and the objective condition, are the reverse of the order shown in the causal condition as acting on the present and acting on the future. The immediately preceding condition is for the purpose of distinguishing, and is manifest towards the arising future. The objective condition is that which is apprehended by minds and mental factors, and acts on the present, being manifest towards cessation. If that is the case, then minds and mental factors, and the past and future (and the unconditioned) will not be objects, because the present objective condition produces the present mind and mental factors. If asked, (that is in terms of what is most important, or) the Vaibhashikas say that the past and future are also present realities, so the objects of those are also only simultaneous. The Sautrantikas believe that all causes and effects are only non-simultaneous, so all causal conditions act on the result that will arise, and the present does not act. Because it says in the Pramanavarttika: All causes are previously existent. If so, then co-emergence and correspondence will not become mutual causes and effects, and if so, then those causes will not be possible. Answer: The power of the previous aggregate causes the later ones to be co-emergent and corresponding.

Because the co-emergent and corresponding causes of the five forms also appear. What is said to be mutually cause and effect is in terms of continuity, not in terms of momentary entities. Some people think so. Then, if the first moment of mind immediately after arising from a state of mindlessness does not have feelings, etc., then these will not be all-pervasive. If it exists, then it will not be mind-born, because it is believed that it is not born from simultaneous mind, and because the previous one was mindless. If the first is born from simultaneous mind, then the latter should also arise, because there is no difference. If feelings, etc., are not born from the mind, then the view that they are born from the mind is destroyed. The sutra also says: 'These aggregates of perception and thought are born from the mind, dependent on the mind, and born from the mind.' This contradicts the sutra. Also, some say that when entering a state of mindlessness, there is an uninterrupted consciousness such as the Alaya consciousness, which is produced from that. This statement is also unreasonable, because what is born from the Alaya consciousness contradicts being a co-emergent retinue of other minds. Even if it is born from the seed of Alaya consciousness, it is because it is a contributing factor to the cause. It is also unreasonable to say that the first moment of mind does not have feelings, etc., arising simultaneously, because the latter will not have them either, because there is no difference. If the mind arises in the first moment, then what is born from the mind will also arise, because there is no identical situation without a complete cause. Therefore, the Commentary on Valid Cognition says: 'From an unfailing cause, what can prevent the result from arising?' Therefore, know that simultaneous cause and effect exist. However, focusing on the past and future is focusing on non-existent things, so they are not objective conditions. Whatever is an objective condition is simultaneous with the objectifier, this answer is good. The dominant condition (not necessarily with activity), because it exists in all states as an unobstructed nature, and there is nothing else to distinguish it from, it is not explained separately. Then, do conditioned phenomena arise from all four conditions, or from each one? The four conditions are mind.
