This can be considered as clinging that harms well-being. Karma is what obstructs the mind from abiding. Here, in general, there are three types of minds: virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral. Among non-virtuous minds, there are two types: those that are associated only with unmixed ignorance, and those that are associated with mixed other afflictions. Among neutral minds, there are two types: obscured and unobscured, thus becoming five types. Among these, for the moment, regarding non-virtuous minds, those that are unmixed and only associated with ignorance (because other root afflictions are afflictive) (also occur in twenty ways). And (indicated by the particle "gyi," those that are mixed also occur in twenty ways, namely:) those that are associated with the three views (the latter), such as wrong views other than the view of the aggregates and the view of extremes (mixed), also have twenty mental events arising. (Because they are mind and mental factors) the ten pervasive mental factors, (because they are afflictive) the six afflictive mental factors, (because they are non-virtuous) the two non-virtuous factors, (because they are desire minds) the two examination and analysis factors, because they exist in the same way. Ignorance itself (not explicitly mentioned) is counted among the afflictive grounds, and views (not mentioned) are included in wisdom, so there is no other substance. Virtuous grounds are impossible. Here, "mixed" refers to being associated with other root afflictions as well, while "unmixed" refers to being associated only with the root affliction of ignorance. As the commentary states, "'Unmixed' means that in a mind, there is only ignorance, and no other afflictions such as desire." (Being associated with the first two views is not considered here, because they are not non-virtuous.) A non-virtuous mind associated with views is associated with the three views other than the view of the aggregates and the view of extremes, because those two are obscured and neutral. The four root afflictions—desire, anger, pride, and doubt (any one of them)—and the minor afflictive mental factors such as anger (any one of them), and a mind associated with non-virtuous regret, have twenty-one factors. (The "factor" is adding each one to the previous twenty.) That is, the twenty mentioned before, and desire, etc.

Moreover, because it adds "self" (i.e., the individual himself); and, what corresponds to attachment, except for ignorance, other root afflictions, such as anger, etc., do not correspond; similarly, what corresponds to anger, except for ignorance, other root afflictions, such as attachment, etc., do not correspond; moreover, anger, etc., only correspond to ignorance, and do not correspond to other root afflictions, nor do they correspond to each other among themselves; (these are because they are afflictions that can be expressed in words;) Ignorance has already been listed as an affliction ground. Furthermore, in the "Collection of Determinations," it says that, in accordance with this, attachment, anger, pride, and doubt, because they are incompatible with each other, do not correspond to each other, that is, except for ignorance, the others do not correspond to each other. But in the "Compendium of Topics," it says that attachment, pride, and views also correspond, and anger and doubt also correspond to each other, but here, except for ignorance, the other root afflictions are not considered to be mutually corresponding. (If they corresponded to each other, then in the mind corresponding to the four, such as attachment, there should be twenty-two mental factors, but because it is said that there are only twenty-one, this is the key.) Corresponding to the view of the aggregates and the view of clinging to extremes (the mind, because it is obscured and unspecified,) in the obscured and unspecified mind, eighteen mental factors arise, namely, the ten great ground mental factors, the six affliction ground mental factors, and the two (unspecified ground mental factors) investigation and analysis. Other than the obscured and unspecified, in the four emanated minds, etc., corresponding to the non-obscured and unspecified, twelve mental factors arise. (The Kashmiris) think so, because there are the great ground mental factors and the two investigation and analysis. Sleep is relying on causes such as weakness, fatigue, heaviness of body, mindfulness of the signs of darkness, and food, etc., leading to the inability to support the body, involuntarily gathering the mind into the senses, is the action of being the basis for losing function. Like this, it is influenced by intention and correspondence.
