Since all three of virtuous, non-virtuous, and indeterminate are possible, virtuous, non-virtuous minds, and obscured and unobscured indeterminate minds can all arise without contradiction. Therefore, those minds that have sleep should be counted by adding sleep to them. Thus, those with twenty will have twenty-one, and so on. Some schools, such as the Sarvastivadins and other schools, believe that regret can also become virtuous, non-virtuous, and indeterminate, so they consider it similar to sleep. Among them, indeterminate regret refers to feeling remorse for things done or not done, such as thinking: Why did I eat without being told? Or thinking: Why didn't I paint on that wall? Correspondingly, they also believe that unpleasant feelings, like pleasant feelings, are indeterminate. According to their view, the mental factors associated with unobscured indeterminate minds and regret would be thirteen. The Kashmiris believe that because (regret) is associated with unpleasant feelings, and those who are free from desire do not have unpleasant feelings, there is no indeterminate regret. Because unpleasant feelings are definitely virtuous or non-virtuous (as previously stated). Therefore, they also say "not a result of maturation," and say it has already been said, so the reason should be asked. The above is an explanation of the desire realm mind. Regarding the explanation of the upper realms (form and formless realms), it is said how many mental factors arise in the desire realm mind. Apart from regret, sleep, and the uncertainty arising from non-virtuous minds, the two of non-virtuous shamelessness and recklessness, and the three of deceit and pride, the seven minor afflictive grounds are not present in the first dhyana. Regret is because it is associated with unpleasant feelings, and (the first dhyana) has been moistened by tranquility, so there is no unpleasant companion. Sleep is because it is free from desire in (the first dhyana) and has the characteristic of focusing the mind. For the form realm, when the mind is focused, it will only become samadhi. Master Gangpel argues.

Since it does not produce suffering and does not incite misdeeds of body and speech, there is no anger, etc. Therefore, there, the most virtuous dharmas are the ten general mental factors, vitarka and vicara, totaling twenty-two. Those unmixed with afflictions have ten general mental factors, six root afflictions, vitarka and vicara, totaling eighteen. Those mixed with afflictions, even if they possess views, are the same eighteen, because views are imputed. Others associated with attachment, etc., are those eighteen plus one, totaling nineteen. For the three minds that are unclouded and neutral, there are ten general mental factors, vitarka and vicara, totaling twelve. There, there is no mind of craftsmanship. Generally, in the higher realms, there is no unwholesome, so there are four minds: virtuous, two types of afflicted (mixed and unmixed), and unclouded neutral. Among these, all afflictions are clouded, because they do not become unwholesome and are moistened by quiescence.) Those that are not in the first dhyana, and not only those, but also vitarka is not in the special essence of the first dhyana. (By subtracting vitarka from everything, the virtuous dharmas as previously stated are twenty-one. The unmixed have seventeen, the mixed, even with views, have seventeen. Others associated with attachment, etc., have eighteen. Unclouded minds have eleven.) Above that special essence of the first dhyana, from the second dhyana up to the peak of existence, not only are those said to be absent in the first dhyana and its special essence absent, but also vicara is absent, it should be added. Again, the word "again" indicates that deception and cunning are also absent in those. Wherever there are the eight retinues of kings, brahmins, householders, renunciates, the four great kings, the thirty-three gods, adorers, and merchants, there is deception and cunning, because above the second dhyana there is no connection with retinues. Others should be understood as in the desire realm, that is, the virtuous mind, clouded and unclouded, below the essence of the first dhyana, as explained in the desire realm, possess twenty-two, eighteen, and twelve. In the special essence, except for vitarka, there are twenty-one, seventeen, and eleven. Above the second dhyana (having abandoned vitarka and vicara, there are ten general mental factors, i.e., ten virtuous dharmas).
