In terms of diligence (transforming dull faculties into sharp ones), although it is possible to attain through joy, it can only be attained through the five faculties of faith, etc., mind, omniscience, equanimity, and joy, these nine. It is impossible to attain through more faculties than that. (If it is said that the regression of the non-returner must be a gradual dull faculty, then in the path of no interval, the faculty of equanimity, at the time of the ninth liberation, cannot be transformed into the actual faculty of joy, so the fruit of joy cannot be restored. If this is said, it is possible, because the regression of the gradual dull faculty, later relying on invincible power, transforms into sharp faculties, thereby attaining the fruit of non-return, so at the time of the ninth liberation, joy, etc., are possible, so it is said to be attained through nine ways.) Then, those who are free from desire for desire through the worldly path, when they enter certainty with the mind of the fourth dhyana and above, they will generate equanimity and omniscience, and they will be attained through omniscience, the five faculties of faith, etc., and the mind, these nine ways. From then on (after the faculties have been transformed into invincible), to restore the regression (at the time of the ninth liberation), because joy and happiness are also possible, will it be attained through eleven ways? No, because being free from desire is a prerequisite, so it is impossible for the non-returner to regress, because it is attained through the two paths of the worldly and the transcendental, so these two paths make (that fruit) stable. For the same reason, it is also said in the commentary: Unless completely regressed, it is never possible to attain through the faculty of joy. For those who take being free from desire as a prerequisite, complete regression will not occur, because his being free from desire is attained through the two paths (previously through the worldly path, and later through the transcendental path). Sixth, when explaining the way of possessing faculties (definite possession is): As long as one possesses any one of the three faculties of equanimity, life force, and mind, one must also possess the other two faculties, so one must possess the three faculties (because they pervade all and all sentient beings rely on), they are those faculties. Then, those who enter the two states of non-thought and cessation, because they do not have mind and equanimity, will they also not possess the life force? Their manifestation

Even if it is not present, there is a possibility of obtaining it, so having it is reasonable. Other than the first three, others are not necessarily possessed. The senses of the eyes, ears, nose, and tongue, in desire, those who have not obtained (such as dwarfs), those who have completely lost (such as the blind), and (gradually dying, etc.) do not possess. The senses of male and female, in desire, those who have not obtained and those who have completely lost do not possess. Those born in the upper two realms do not possess (male and female). (The sense of body and those born in the formless realm do not possess.) The sense of suffering, those born in the upper two realms do not possess. Unpleasantness, those who are detached from desire in the realm of desire do not possess. The sutra says: For those who have not detached from desire, two kinds of painful feelings are taught, the suffering of the body and the unpleasantness of the mind are also felt separately. For those who have detached from desire, there is only one kind of pain, only the suffering of the body is felt separately. The treatise also says that unpleasantness and detachment from desire are not possessed. Those in the formless realm do not possess the seven material objects of the senses such as eyes. Ordinary beings do not possess the undefiled qualities. The undefiled qualities also include those who know everything, those who are in the path of meditation and the path of no more learning, because they have abandoned what they had previously obtained, they do not possess. Those who know everything and those who are in the path of seeing and the path of no more learning do not possess. Those who possess all knowledge and those who are learners do not possess. Those who have cut off the roots of virtue do not possess the five qualities such as faith. Ordinary beings above the third (and fourth) dhyana (in order) also do not possess pleasure and happiness. Similarly, men do not possess women, and women do not possess men. To become all-knowing, one does not possess the latter two, and to become all-knowing, one does not possess the former and latter two. Those who possess all knowledge do not possess the former two. These should also be known in the following content.\\ Furthermore, those who possess happiness are all the ordinary and noble beings except for the fourth dhyana and the ordinary beings born in the formless realm. Those who possess it must possess mind, life, equanimity, and happiness itself.
