Now, it is explained in order to beautify the arrangement of the treatise. It should be understood that all the statements showing the necessity, etc., of these three methods are indeed not contradictory. Third, refuting the argument: This statement is not suitable for eliminating wrong views, because it is merely a word without reason. Doubt also arises naturally, so there is no need for a statement for its sake. As for beautifying the treatise, since the promise of homage and explanation has been made, there is no need for that. If those do not beautify it, then it will not beautify it either, because there is no difference. How can one statement have multiple results? Since this has four meanings, such as necessity, it is reasonable to establish that a treatise should be composed. It is more important to assume that necessity, etc., exist, because they do not arise naturally but depend on the statement. Even if the promise of homage and explanation has been made beautifully, it is also necessary to beautify it with statements that show necessity. Moreover, multiple results can arise from one cause, as seen in things like lamps. Second, the meaning of the summary is: The structure of the treatise shows that it has four meanings, such as necessity. Among these two, the nature of the treatise, in which it exists, will be explained, and the definition has already been explained. The measure of accomplishment is: From the collection of many letters, a noun that merely shows the essence of the object; from that collection, a word that shows the difference of the object; from that collection, a statement; from that collection, a detailed explanation; from that collection, the treatise is accomplished. This is the explanation of the venerable Avalokiteśvara Śāntarakṣita. Among the necessity and relationship that exist there are three: First, the nature is that defiled and undefiled dharmas are the objects to be expressed here; the wisdom of thoroughly distinguishing them is the necessity; attaining the cessation of suffering and its causes, obtaining peaceful nirvana is the necessity of necessity; dharmas are the objects to be expressed, and this treatise is the expressing subject, this relationship is the relationship. Alternatively, Tibetan scholars say that the necessity of necessity depends on necessity, and necessity depends on the treatise, which is the relationship. Similarly, the necessity that exists only for the statement

There are also four connections, and the four necessary connections that exist in the language of connection should also be understood. Since these are easy to understand, they are not written here. Second, determining the number: Why are only four aspects, such as necessity, taught as parts of entering a treatise? This is because, considering the necessity, only four aspects are taught here. That is, Master Dharmakirti thought that this treatise either has no necessity, or even if it does, it cannot be achieved, or even if it can be achieved, it is not desirable, or even if it is desirable, it is not related. In order to dispel these doubts, only four aspects, such as the subject matter, are taught. Master Shantarakshita and others thought that in order to dispel the doubts that this treatise either has no subject matter, or has no necessity, or has no excellent benefit, or that these are not related to this method, and thus establish entry, only four aspects are taught. In any case, it should be understood that there is no contradiction. If it is said that the words that explain necessity, etc., can dispel these doubts, then saying "sound is impermanent" can also dispel the wrong conception of permanence. If that were the case, then the sign and the example would become meaningless. If saying "sound is impermanent" does not dispel the clinging to permanence, then the words that explain necessity will also not dispel it, because there is no difference. If it is said that saying "sound is impermanent" dispels the wrong conception of clinging to permanence, but the sign of being made, etc., and the example, etc., are for dispelling doubt and misunderstanding, and thus generating correct valid cognition, then there is no contradiction. Third, analyzing one and different: Then, how are those, such as the subject matter, one and different? Necessity, the necessity of necessity, and connection are the same as the subject matter, because the subject matter here is all dharmas. Necessity and the necessity of necessity are different, because they are cause and effect. If the connection is considered to be a cause-and-effect connection, then it cannot be separated from these. If the connection is considered to be the connection between the subject matter and the expression, then it is completely conceived by the conceptual thought of the author of the symbol and term, and in reality, it is free from one and different, like the view of Master Dignāga.
