. It is appropriate to strive for the next life. Thus it is said. Third, the way in which death cannot be avoided by any means is: In the Padma Kathang Yig, it says: Even if the king of medicine himself comes, he cannot prolong life when the lifespan is exhausted; there is no appeal to the law of the great ruler; there is no way to avoid death by touching it with one's hand; there is no way to strike with curses by someone with powerful speech; there is no way to bribe with precious wealth; the cowardly cannot flee to other places; the eloquent cannot argue. As the sun sets behind the mountains, no one, high or low, strong or weak, can prevent it. Moreover, taking our own land as an example, all beings born in all realms of the world, the houses that are built, the friends who gather, all the wealth and food that is accumulated, none of them are permanent. As it is said in the Vinaya Sutra: "The end of birth is death, the end of building is destruction, the end of gathering is separation, the end of accumulation is exhaustion." Among these four endings, now you have encountered the impermanence of death, which is the end of birth. Now is the time when the guru's instructions are needed. Regarding the way of instructing, although there are many different traditions of the new and old schools, if we explain the Dzogchen teachings of our own tradition, the way in which people of medium capacity are liberated in the bardo, from the time you fell ill a few days ago, starting from the first birth from the mother's womb, this is called the birth-place bardo. From the time you fell ill until the inner breath ceases, this is called the death-moment bardo. From the cessation of the inner breath until the appearance of the spontaneously arising phenomena, this is called the dharmata bardo. From the disappearance of the spontaneously arising phenomena until the taking of rebirth in the next life, this is called the existence bardo. Among these four bardos, the way to introduce the latter three is: to clarify the death-moment bardo of the elements' turbulence, and to show the instructions of introduction and transference; to clarify the spontaneously arising dharmata bardo, and to introduce that all sounds, lights, and rays are self-appearances, thereby generating faith and certainty; to clarify the existence bardo of cyclic existence, and to bestow the teaching that one can attain a good rebirth through aspiration alone. The introduction to the death-moment bardo of the elements' turbulence. First, the element

Regarding the clarification of the dying Bardo, there are two ways, common and specific. First, the common way: From the root verses of the Peaceful and Wrathful Bardo: "Alas! When the dying Bardo dawns upon me, I must abandon all attachment and clinging to everything, and not be distracted in the clear instructions. May self-awareness of unborn nature merge into the expanse of space. I am about to separate from this body of flesh and blood. I must know that this is impermanent death." Thus it is said. Secondly, the specific way: There are many ways in which we sentient beings die, but in summary, there are two: dying untimely and dying at the end of one's lifespan. First, in the case of sudden death due to unexpected events, there is no time for the definite stages of dissolution, etc. Second, dying at the end of one's lifespan occurs when one's life, karma, and merit are exhausted. In these cases, the dissolution of the five elements and the five senses, the departure of the five winds, and the absorption of appearances occur in a definite order. Furthermore, the three experiences of appearance, increase, and attainment, as well as near attainment and the ground luminosity, are said to appear in sequence. Having understood the meaning of these processes, it is crucial to forcefully apply Powa (transference of consciousness) to those who die suddenly and untimely, and to ordinary individuals who have no familiarity with the path. As the Great Orgyen said: "If one has great wisdom of realization, and has not fallen into lower realms in this life, connect them with forceful transference. They will surely achieve accomplishment without doubt." Therefore, if it is certain that Powa can be performed, it is said that it will bring great benefit to that place. Secondly, for those who die at the end of their lifespan and those who have experience through practice, it is crucial to have the clarification of instructions and introduction. The Great Perfection Definitive Meaning Collection Tantra says: "In the Bardo of birth and death, if one does not recognize the Dharmakaya, the darkness of ignorance will not clear, like a dark room without a lamp." To explain its meaning in detail, the Play of Wisdom says: "First, earth dissolves into water, water dissolves into fire, fire dissolves into wind, wind dissolves into consciousness, this consciousness being grasped, will enter into the clear light." Although there are many different ways of expressing this, the teachings of the Great Perfection of Clear Light are unique.
