O you, whose lifespan has ended, so-and-so, listen well without distraction! Call out three times like this. Now, the appearance of this life in the world has faded for you, and the consciousness of the next life is dawning. This thing called impermanence of death has occurred. However, it is not only you alone who have encountered this impermanence of death in this way. In general, all characteristics of compounded things are impermanent. As the Buddha Bhagavan said: "Monks, all compounded things are impermanent." And, in the Chapter on Particulars, it says: "Alas! All compounded things are impermanent, having the nature of arising and then dying." In particular, the so-called stable outer world, that is, the layered mountains, continents, environment, golden mountains, pleasure seas, iron fences, and so on, these solid and hard things are also impermanent. As the Great Master Orgyen said: "The outer world is destroyed by fire, water, and wind." And, the moving inner sentient beings, from the Chakravartin kings of the past, to the petty monarchs of today, down to insects and tiny creatures, all sentient beings, high, low, and medium, in general, and all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Lamas, Khenpos, Sangha assemblies, etc., who have come for their sake, are also impermanent. The Omniscient Dharma Lord said: "The inner compounded things are impermanent, changing and transforming." Likewise, the seasons of this stable and moving realm, summer, winter, autumn, spring, years, months, days, and times are all impermanent. As the Great Master Orgyen said: "Last year, this year, the seasons, the beginning and the end, days and nights, moments, time is impermanent." In particular, in this world, whether those who have already been born in the past, those who are now born and existing, or those who will be born in the future, all beings of the three kinds, high, medium, and low, will all certainly face death like you are now, it is impossible to determine when death will occur, and death is of no benefit to anyone, these three points are certain. First, the reason why death is certain is, as it says in the Chapter on Particulars: "Thus, for all who are born, death stands before them." Second, the reason why it is impossible to determine when death will occur is, as it says in the Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life: "Tomorrow and the next life, whichever comes first, cannot be foreseen, therefore, one should not strive for the things of tomorrow.
