Long-life gods, birth in borderlands, incomplete faculties, those with wrong views, and birth in lands where Buddhas have not appeared, these are the eight. These are said to be unfree or unsuitable as a basis for practicing the Dharma, hence the name. This is in terms of the main aspect, but otherwise, among those born as long-life gods, in the lower realms, or with incomplete faculties, there are also those who have faith in the Dharma, and it is said that Bodhisattvas are also born in those places, so one must know the difference. Long-life gods are the Great Brahma, the gods without perception, some of the formless realm gods, and the desire realm gods who are always distracted. Incomplete faculties refer to cases where faculties are incomplete from the beginning, but it is not necessarily the case that faculties become incomplete due to later circumstances. Second, regarding endowments, there are two types. The five personal endowments are: human birth, born in the central land, complete faculties, not having committed heinous actions, and faith in the teachings. As it is said, generally being a human, being born in the central land means being born in a place where there are the fourfold assemblies. Complete faculties mean not having become mentally deficient or mute, and having all limbs and parts complete. Not having committed heinous actions means not having committed actions such as the five heinous crimes. Faith in the teachings means having faith in the three baskets. These five are included in one's own continuum, so they are called personal endowments. The five circumstantial endowments are: a Buddha appearing, the true Dharma being taught, the teachings abiding, following them, and others having loving-kindness. As it is said, like the holy land (India) where the Buddha actually appeared, the Buddha or Shravakas teach the true Dharma, the teachings of scripture and realization abide, following and practicing the Dharma, and others, like patrons, give favorable conditions for practicing the Dharma with faith and loving-kindness, these are the five. These exist in the continuum of others and are conditions for practicing the Dharma, so they are circumstantial endowments. Although this place is not the central land divided by geographical location, it is the central land divided by the Dharma, so there is no contradiction, and although the Buddha did not actually appear in common appearance, many successors of the Buddha have emerged, so there is no fault in saying that it is a place where the Buddha has not appeared. Second, contemplating the greatness of the meaning of leisure and endowment, in the Compendium of Meanings it says: This basis of leisure is superior to a wish-fulfilling jewel. As it is said, this basis has great meaning

Because it is possible to achieve liberation and the state of omniscience, it is superior to a wish-fulfilling jewel. The superiority lies in the fact that a wish-fulfilling jewel can only fulfill temporary needs, but cannot achieve ultimate benefit. If one strives on this leisure and endowment support, one can achieve ultimate benefit. Therefore, having obtained such a support, do not let it be wasted. As the scholar hero said: "Who here would make fruitless the people of all qualities, who are superior to the wish-fulfilling jewel?" The Engaging in Bodhisattva Behavior says: "Having obtained such a leisure support, if I do not practice virtue, then there is no deception greater than this, and there is no delusion greater than this." It also says: "Relying on the boat of human life, one can be liberated from the great river of suffering. This boat is difficult to obtain later, so fools, do not sleep at this time." As it is said, one should generate the desire to take the essence of great meaning. Third, contemplating the difficulty of obtaining: Rebirth from bad realms to bad realms, and rebirth from good realms to bad realms, are as numerous as the dust of the great earth. And rebirth from these two to good realms is said to be as rare as the dust taken from the tip of the Buddha's fingernail. If one thinks that rebirth from good realms to bad realms is not that numerous, then the Four Hundred Verses says: "Most people hold to non-holy Dharma, therefore all ordinary people mostly certainly go to bad realms." As it is said, even if one is born into a good realm as a human, those who commit evil deeds are extremely numerous, therefore those who are born into bad realms are numerous. If the difficulty of obtaining is summarized into three categories, it is the way of explaining the difficulty of obtaining from the aspect of essence, from the aspect of cause, and from the aspect of example. First, bad realms are more numerous than good realms. Although the other two bad realms are not seen by everyone, the hungry ghosts who dwell in the cycle of time gather and assemble like the lees of wine in the ocean; on the earth, the species of animals are extremely numerous compared to humans, like the countless insects in summer. Explaining the difficulty of obtaining from the aspect of cause: Generally, rebirth in good realms is due to virtuous actions, so one must strive to perform virtuous deeds. Moreover, even if one only does one virtuous deed such as discipline, one must rely on it. In particular, in order to obtain the support of leisure and endowment, one must establish the foundation with pure discipline.
