Ro. First, teaching the Dharma without regard for fame, gain, and possessions is said to have ten benefits, as encouraged, and there are many others. Second, the Dharma teacher should remember the kindness of the Dharma and the teacher, thereby generating respect. Third, regarding intention and action, the intention is: relying on the six recognitions mentioned above, and acting primarily with the intention of attaining Buddhahood. The action is: being clean, ascending the Dharma seat in a place that suits the mind, reciting the mantra to subdue the armies of demons, or reciting the Heart Sutra three times or once, abandoning pride, and with a mind of benefit, with a bright face, explaining according to the circumstances with various metaphors and reasons. Fourth, in general, one should not teach those who are unsuitable vessels for listening to the Dharma, those who have not requested it for the sake of the Dharma, those who are disrespectful, and as stated in the Vinaya, those who are riding horses or oxen, wearing shoes, carrying weapons, etc. One should not teach those who are lying down, but it is permissible for those who are ill, etc., as a special case. One should teach those who are eager to learn, have faith, and are respectful. Third, at the end, one should dedicate the merit of listening to and teaching the Dharma to perfect enlightenment. Fourth, how to guide disciples with actual instructions is divided into two parts: the root of the path is relying on a spiritual friend, and how to train the mind after relying on one. The first part is divided into two parts: explaining in a slightly expanded way in order to generate certainty, and briefly showing the method of cultivation. First, it is said: the beginning of all instructions is not abandoning the excellent spiritual friend. Therefore, one must first rely on a spiritual friend, and in this regard, there are six points: the characteristics of the spiritual friend to be relied upon, the characteristics of the disciple who can rely on, the way to rely on them, the benefits of relying on them, the faults of not relying on them, and a summary of these points. The first point is: in general, there are many discussions in the Sutras and Tantras, but in this case, the spiritual friend is: as stated in the Ornament for Clear Realization: "Tamed, peaceful, and utterly peaceful, surpassing in qualities, diligent, rich in scriptures, realized the truth, skilled in speech, compassionate, and free from weariness, one should rely on such a spiritual friend." As it is said, one should rely on one who possesses ten qualities. If we summarize its meaning, tamed is the training in discipline, peaceful is

The training of Samadhi, the training of tranquil wisdom, being rich in the qualities of the scriptures, directly realizing the meaning of Suchness or knowing it through hearing and thinking, having more qualities than the student, being skilled in explaining the order of how to guide, possessing great love and compassion, being tireless in repeatedly explaining, diligently engaging in the welfare of others, thus possessing ten qualities. Secondly, the student who relies on the teacher: From the Four Hundred Verses: "An honest, intelligent, and truth-seeking listener is said to be a vessel. The qualities of the speaker do not transform into something different for the listener, nor vice versa." As it is said, one should possess three qualities: being impartial and honest, possessing intelligence, and being a listener who is fit to receive the Dharma for the sake of its meaning. If these three are not complete, then the qualities of the speaker of the Dharma will not transform into other qualities for the listener, that is, they will not appear as qualities. Moreover, for the speaker, the qualities of the listener will not appear as qualities, but will appear as faults. On top of that, adding respect and trust for the Dharma and the speaker of the Dharma, it can also be five. Thirdly, how to rely on them is twofold: relying on them with thought and action. First, there are three: generally showing the thought, cultivating the root of faith, and remembering the kindness and showing respect. First: From the Tree Array Sutra, summarizing the meaning of relying on a spiritual friend with nine minds: Giving oneself into the power of the lama, like the mind of a virtuous son; that which cannot be separated by anyone, like the mind of a vajra; enduring to bear the work of the lama, like the mind of a yak; not being moved even when suffering arises, like the mind of an environment; accomplishing even evil deeds, like the mind of a servant; having little pride, like the mind of a sweeper; holding the great burdens of the lama, like the mind of a vehicle; not being angry even when scolded by the lama, like the mind of a dog; not being weary of the lama's work, relying on them like the minds of a boat. Second, cultivating the root of faith: As the Jewel Heap Sutra says: "Faith is generated first like a mother, protecting and increasing all virtues." And so on. Also, as the Ten Dharmas Sutra says: "Faith is the supreme vehicle, therefore, a person with intelligence should rely on following faith, a person without faith does not
