There are three aspects to patience in accepting suffering: the reasons, the methods of generating it, and a detailed explanation from the basis. The first point is: No matter what kind of suffering arises, whether big or small, one must know how to transform it into the path. If one does not know how to transform it, it will add the suffering of worry, thus making the suffering even greater. The second point is divided into two: refuting the complete displeasure with suffering, and the appropriateness of accepting suffering. The first point is: One should not be completely displeased with suffering. If it can be remedied, then one should engage in remedying it; if it cannot be remedied, then even if one is displeased, it will not bring any benefit other than suffering. The second point is divided into three: contemplating the virtues of suffering, contemplating the virtues of patience towards it, and becoming accustomed to it so it is not difficult. The first point is: Suffering has five virtues: if there is suffering, renunciation arises, pride diminishes, one avoids evil, one delights in accomplishing virtue, and compassion arises for others. The second point is divided into two: the benefit of great significance, and the benefit of averting other sufferings. The first point is: Whatever suffering arises, one should accept it. In the past, even for small needs and slight desires, one has experienced great, long-lasting, and numerous sufferings, but to no avail. Now, this suffering will become the cause of exhausting the bad fruits of past karma, so it must be accepted. Moreover, one should also take upon oneself the sufferings of all other sentient beings, because by taking them on, immeasurable benefits will arise. The second point is: If there is no displeasure in experiencing this suffering and one accepts it, then immeasurable future sufferings will be averted. Because this small suffering will purify the many sufferings of samsara in general, and the immeasurable sufferings of the lower realms that one will experience in the future. In short, aiming to attain Buddhahood, one should not mind harm and cultivate patience in accepting suffering. As the Compendium says: The mind in hell, animals, the world of Yama, sufferings are many. Due to the qualities of desire, one experiences harm involuntarily. Why not for enlightenment

I shouldn't think of not enduring. Starting with the thought, "However much suffering there is in the world, I will endure it." Bodhisattvas abide in the perfection of patience. Think like that. Therefore, one should think that this suffering is beneficial to me. Third, if one is accustomed to accepting suffering, it is not difficult. Just as all sentient beings, due to their past habits, also perceive suffering as happiness. If one is accustomed to accepting suffering, then a perception of happiness will arise. Third, there are eight aspects explained from the basis: relying on a place, worldly dharmas, conduct, fully upholding the Dharma, living by begging, being exhausted by diligence, doing things for the benefit of others, and temporary affairs, because one must accept the suffering that arises from relying on these. Third, for generating patience with definite conviction in the Dharma, there are eight objects of faith: first, the Three Jewels as the object of faith; the object to be manifested is the suchness of selflessness; the object of desire is the great power of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, etc.; the object of acceptance and rejection is the two, good and bad, cause and effect; the object of meditation is the enlightenment to be attained and the means of attainment; the object of hearing and thinking is the twelve divisions of scripture, etc.; the object of faith is to gain certainty about the reality of those objects, so one must repeatedly think about them. Fourth, the method of practice is to do it with the six perfections and the six paramitas. Fifth, the summary of the meaning is: taking the generation of bodhicitta as the basis, make the great patience of the high grounds the object of aspiration, and strive to learn the patience of beginners as much as possible. Fourth, the perfection of diligence has five aspects: the nature of diligence, the method of entering, the classification, how to practice, and the summary of the meaning. The first is: to generate joy in the mind towards virtuous goals. The second is: to think about the benefits of initiating diligence and the faults of not initiating diligence. In short, there is benefit in doing diligence. In general, whatever Dharma and worldly activities one does, diligence is necessary, and especially to accomplish the special benefit of the next life, diligence is necessary.
