Based on generating the mind of enlightenment, engaging in discipline, etc., it is necessary to refrain from harming all sentient beings. One should aspire to practice the high-level disciplines, and especially for the ten non-virtues and other aspects that one considers important, one should repeatedly vow to protect each one. Third, the perfection of patience has five aspects: the nature, the method of entering, the divisions, the way of practicing, and the summary of the meaning. The first is: not minding harm, gladly accepting suffering, and having extremely firm faith in the determination to think about the Dharma. The second is: to practice through contemplating the benefits of patience and the faults of impatience. Although there are many benefits, if summarized, they are: fewer enemies, peaceful mind, indestructible roots of virtue, beautiful appearance, attainment of the status of gods and humans, and ultimately becoming a Buddha, and so on. The faults are stated in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: "There is no sin like hatred." In particular, if one becomes angry with a sublime object such as a Bodhisattva, the fault is extremely great. As it says in the same text: "All the merit accumulated over a thousand eons is destroyed by a single moment of anger." The Madhyamakavatara says: "Impatience quickly throws one into the lower realms." Since there are many such statements, one should contemplate the great faults and cultivate patience in many ways. Third, there are three divisions: not minding the harmer, accepting suffering, and patience of definite thought towards the Dharma. The first, generating it, has two aspects: refuting impatience towards harm that has been done, and refuting liking and disliking towards the prosperity and decline of the harmer. The first has two aspects: refuting impatience towards obstacles to happiness and the creation of suffering, and refuting impatience towards obstacles to respect, etc. The first has two aspects: showing that it is not appropriate to be angry, and that it is appropriate to have compassion. The first has three aspects: refuting hatred by examining the object, the subject, and the basis. If these are explained in detail, the content will become extensive, so I will just say a little. The first is: it is not appropriate to be angry with the object of the harmer, because the harmer has no autonomy when harming. Because he harms due to the power of afflictions, he has become without autonomy. If you are angry with the actual cause,

One should not be angry at sticks and the like. If one is angry at the initial cause, one should be angry at afflictions, and one should also be angry at one's own past actions, because afflictions and one's own actions also cause harm. One should think in this way. If one examines the object, one should not be angry, because being angry at the harmer is the cause of experiencing suffering. If one cannot bear such small suffering now, how will one bear the great suffering of the lower realms? Therefore, one must eliminate anger. If one does not prevent it, in the future, the ripening of anger will be extremely difficult to bear. One should think in this way. If one examines the basis, one should not be angry, because this body is the basis for the arising of suffering. Whatever unsuitable conditions arise on this, they will cause suffering. One should think in this way and view the body as a fault. Second, one should cherish: not only should one not be angry at the harmer, but one should also cherish them. Because there is no sentient being who has not been one's own parent, for example, if one's parents are possessed by a demon and cause harm to oneself, one should not retaliate but cherish them. Because the harmer is also possessed by the demon of afflictions and is not in control. One should think in this way. Second, one should not be angry at those who obstruct respect and praise, because being attached to respect and praise and being angry is the cause of falling into the lower realms. One should not be angry at slander and insult either, because not valuing these, being unhappy and angry is also the cause of the lower realms. One should think in this way. Second, one should not dislike the prosperity of enemies and like their decline, because the jealousy of not being able to bear the wealth of other sentient beings arising from their own merit is the cause of being born as an inferior being oneself, and it is extremely contradictory to vow to give all sentient beings lasting happiness and yet be jealous of their wealth. One should never like enemies to suffer, because liking enemies to suffer does not benefit oneself but harms oneself, because such thoughts will harm compassion and lead to falling into the lower realms, because this is a very bad thought. One should think in this way and eliminate anger. Two
