Therefore, it is necessary to listen to and understand the contents described in the "Chapter on Discipline." Second, to undertake: one must undertake according to the ritual described in the commentary on the "Chapter on Discipline." Third, divided into three points: the basis of what is to be learned, how other trainings are included therein, and the order of how to practice it. First point: In general, the classifications of what to learn are limitless, but if summarized, it is the six perfections, which is the great outline of the basis of learning. The second point is divided into two points: the determination of number and the order. First point: The classification of the six perfections spoken by the Blessed One, as explained by Maitreya, the Regent, has six types. The determination of number related to higher realms, the determination of number related to accomplishing the two benefits, the determination of number related to accomplishing the benefit of others, the determination of number related to gathering the Great Vehicle, the determination of number related to the three trainings, and the determination of number of the basis for accomplishing the Buddha's teachings. First point: When obtaining the excellent basis of higher realms for practicing the path, one must strive to practice the six perfections, because practicing the path on a lower basis will result in little progress. However, practicing the six perfections and other practices on an excellent basis will result in great progress. Second point: To accomplish the benefit of oneself and others, the six perfections are needed. First, one needs to benefit others through material giving, for which one needs discipline to avoid harm, patience to not retaliate against harm, diligence to rejoice in virtue, concentration to focus the mind on virtuous objects, and wisdom to liberate the mind. Third point: To perfectly accomplish the benefit of others, the six perfections are needed. That is, first, one eliminates poverty through material means, endures and perseveres against those who harm, subdues others through the miraculous powers born of meditation, and then cuts off doubts with wisdom, liberating them. In this way, one can accomplish the benefit of oneself and others. The fourth determination of number: To gather all the Great Vehicle, the six perfections are also needed. Because one needs inexhaustible enjoyment, needs to take vows, needs to accept suffering, needs to persevere in virtue, and needs to practice calm and insight meditation. The fifth determination of number: The three trainings are complete.

Six perfections are needed. If there is giving that does not consider benefits, then the ethics and non-anger patience that rely on it will arise, which is the cycle of ethics. Samadhi is the training of concentration, and wisdom is the training of wisdom. Effort in the three trainings is the cause of diligence. The determination of the number six is: the basis for accomplishing the Buddha's teachings also requires six perfections. The first four perfections accomplish the perfection of meditation, and through insight, one realizes suchness and becomes liberated. Therefore, all six of these require and produce six perfections. Second, regarding the order, the order of arising from the three is that the former arises dependent on the latter. Inferior and superior are that the former is inferior and the latter is superior. Coarse and subtle are that the former is coarse and the latter is subtle. The Ornament of the Sutras says: The latter arises dependent on the former, because it is situated in inferiority and superiority, and because of coarseness and subtlety, these are shown in order. It is said. Third, regarding the order of learning this, there are two: how to learn general conduct and how to learn the last two perfections in particular. First, there are two: how to learn the six perfections that ripen one's own mindstream and the four ways of gathering that ripen the mindstreams of others. First, there are six from generosity to wisdom. First, generosity has four aspects: the nature of generosity, the method of generating it, the distinctions of generosity, and the summary of their meanings. The first is: the mind of giving and the actions of body and speech that are motivated by it. The second is: to generate from the depths of one's heart the thought of giving all possessions to others. One must contemplate the faults of attachment and the benefits of giving. Because things have an end, one should repeatedly become accustomed to thinking that one is taking the essence from giving these things away. Whether one actually gives things away or not, one should train the thought of giving things to others. No matter how great or small the merit, one should dedicate it without discrimination for the benefit of all sentient beings, especially for temporary and ultimate benefit, so that one can obtain many merits dependent on each sentient being. The Precious Garland says: The realm of sentient beings is immeasurable, and the desire to benefit is also like that.
