There are three types of ethical discipline: gathering the Dharma and benefiting sentient beings. There are three types of patience: accepting suffering, having conviction in the Dharma, and not minding harm. There are three types of diligence: constant practice, respectful practice, and diligence in benefiting sentient beings. There are three types of meditative concentration: dwelling in bliss in this life, manifestly accomplishing qualities, and meditative concentration that benefits sentient beings. There are three types of wisdom: conventional wisdom, ultimate wisdom, and wisdom that benefits sentient beings. The order is: the latter arises dependent on the former, because they are situated in inferior and superior, because they are coarse and subtle, therefore these are taught in order. Thus it is said, that is, these six arise dependent on the former, the former is inferior and the latter is superior, the former is coarse and the latter is the order of subtle. The meaning of the words or the definition is: abandoning poverty, obtaining coolness and enduring anger, practicing excellence and holding the mind, and it is said for the sake of knowing the ultimate meaning. As it is said, the Sanskrit word for generosity is dāna, in which dāridra refers to beings who are poor and bad, here translated as poverty. Na is a negative word, meaning no poverty or abandoning poverty is the meaning of dāna. The Sanskrit word for ethical discipline is śīla, which means obtaining coolness, that is, without the suffering of afflictions. The Sanskrit word for patience is kṣānti, which means patience, what is patience for? Patience for anger. The Sanskrit word for diligence is vīrya, which means excellent benefit, that is, great courage. The Sanskrit word for meditative concentration is dhyānaḥ, which means holding in the mind, that is, being single-pointed. The Sanskrit word for wisdom is prajñā's jñā, which means wisdom and prajñā, also includes synonyms, prajñā means knowing the excellent object. In short, the benefits of the six perfections are: as the Ratnavali says: generosity obtains enjoyment, ethical discipline obtains happiness, patience obtains radiance, diligence obtains majesty, meditative concentration obtains peace, wisdom obtains liberation. Second, explain separately, there are six: generosity, ethical discipline, patience, diligence, meditative concentration, and wisdom. First, there are three: the actual practice, wishing to give in this way, and wishing to perfect the perfection of generosity. First

O! There are four lines regarding clinging to "I" and "mine": Clinging and believing that "I" am the giver, and clinging to "This is mine" for what is being given. Without abiding with true clinging to all internal and external things through the three spheres, may I give without stinginess towards the object of giving, for the benefit of all sentient beings. Secondly, at the time of giving in this way, may I know that all the things gathered by giving are not truly existent. May all the objects of enjoyment that I have to give arise effortlessly and spontaneously. Thirdly, "all things" etc. has two lines: At that time, may the perfection of giving be completed through the way of completely destroying the clinging to reality in all things of the three spheres of the giver, the object of giving, and the recipient. Some say that the meaning of "all things are completely destroyed" is that all things will surely be destroyed and separated, and it can also be explained as all the objects of giving being given away and then destroyed and exhausted, which seems to be one way. In short, these earlier and later texts all pray to give through realizing the emptiness of the three spheres of giving, as it says in the scriptures, "Who gives, to whom is given?" etc. The actual giving is placed on a mind of giving, and in order for it to become the perfection of giving, it needs to be grasped by the first two of the three: the mind of enlightenment, dedication, and the wisdom of realizing emptiness. In some great treatises, it is said that if it is grasped by any one of them, it will become the perfection of giving, which refers to the case where the mind of enlightenment is the basis, because the six perfections are taught as the Dharma of the Great Vehicle lineage. The Entering the Middle Way says: "Giving, the object of giving, and the receiver are all empty; this is called the transcendent giving. If attachment arises to these three, it is taught as the worldly giving." This verse reveals the two types of giving: worldly perfection of giving and transcendent perfection of giving. The former is the giving in the continuum of ordinary beings, and the latter is the giving in the continuum of the Great Vehicle Aryas.
