Indeed. Seeing this aggregate, one takes it to be seeing the self. Because without relying on this aggregate, no one can see an independently existing self. If (the self) existed independently, it would lead to faults such as experiencing the results of uncreated actions and the futility of created actions, and so on. This is just an example. Meditating on the meaning of the two selflessnesses is the main point of practice. As stated in the 'Entering the Middle Way': 'To liberate beings, the Buddha taught two kinds of selflessness, distinguishing between phenomena and persons.' Therefore, here, the self to be refuted is posited on the person, which is the selflessness of the person; the self to be refuted is posited on the aggregates and other phenomena, which is the selflessness of phenomena. 'I' and 'mine' are nominally imputed on the five aggregates or the collection of form and mind. This is the 'I' that is merely imputed on the general aggregate without investigation or analysis. The innate thought of 'I am' arises in relation to this, and merely thinking 'I am' is the nominal way of grasping at 'I,' which is not something to be abandoned. However, the innate thought of 'I am' leads to grasping at 'I' as being established from its own side, which is the self-grasping of grasping at 'I.' Grasping at 'mine' as being established from its own side is the self-grasping of grasping at 'mine.' Secondly, aspiring through elaborately explaining the six perfections has two parts: a general explanation and a separate explanation. The first is: The Blessed One extensively taught the classifications of the six perfections. Maitreya explained the way the number of six perfections is determined in the Ornament of the Sutras, which is extremely important. Je Rinpoche extensively explained this in the Lamrim, which should be understood. Briefly, the way the number is determined is sixfold: for higher rebirth, for accomplishing the two purposes, for perfecting the benefit of others, for gathering the Great Vehicle, for all aspects of the path, and for the number determined in relation to the three trainings. The first is: The Ornament of the Sutras says: 'Perfect enjoyment and body, perfect retinue and activity are higher rebirth, constantly not being controlled by afflictions, and not being inverted in actions.' The second is: 'Extremely striving for the sake of sentient beings, practicing generosity, non-harming, and patience, abiding in liberation as the basis, accomplishing all self-benefit.' The third is:

Not being poor and completely non-harming, completely enduring harm and not being discouraged by actions, for the sake of praising well what is pleasing, benefiting others is benefiting oneself. Thus it is said. Fourthly, not manifestly liking enjoyment and, not being discouraged by the two of great reverence and, yoga completely without conceptualization, the limit of the Mahayana is exhausted here. Thus it is said. Fifthly, the path of not being attached to objects, obtaining it is like guarding against distraction, not abandoning sentient beings, increasing and, the place of purifying obscurations. Thus it is said. Sixthly, after mastering the three trainings, the Victorious Ones, the six perfections, truly explained, the first three, the last two divide into two kinds, one also belongs to all three. As it is said. Temporarily setting aside the explanation of the meaning of the former ones, the first three of these later ones refer to generosity, ethics, and patience, which are included in the training of ethics. The last two, meditation and wisdom, are the training of concentration and the training of wisdom, and the three trainings are also included in the six perfections. One, diligence, becomes a companion to the three trainings. If the Victorious Ones classify the differences in conduct in the Sutras, they have said it is limitless, but if everything is summarized, it is necessary to gain certainty about the way it is summarized into the six perfections. Regarding the function of the six perfections, the Ornament of the Sutras says: Generosity causes the unfavorable aspects to decline and, possesses non-conceptual wisdom, accomplishes all wishes completely, ripens sentient beings in three ways. And, similarly, ethics causes the unfavorable aspects to decline and, thus it is translated, the last three verses are the same as wisdom. The unfavorable aspects of those are the six from stinginess to wrong wisdom. Non-conceptual wisdom is that which is possessed by the wisdom that realizes those selflessnesses. Fulfilling wishes is, fulfilling hopes and combining with virtue and enduring harm and making friends and transforming and cutting off doubts. Ripening sentient beings is, from the gathering of generosity to the placing of the Dharma and path of the Mahayana by wisdom. Thus, there are four or three dharmas. Generosity has three types: material generosity, Dharma generosity, and fearlessness generosity. Ethics has the restraint of misdeeds and virtue
