One must definitely have the desire to attain Buddhahood. Therefore, Maitreya said, "The arising of the mind is for the sake of others, desiring perfect and complete enlightenment." It means that for the benefit of others, wanting to place others in Nirvana, wanting to attain perfect Bodhi, one must also have the desire to attain perfect Bodhi. In order to show that the arising of the mind must be grasped by the view of realizing selflessness, therefore, one should generate the mind in this way: wanting to place immeasurable sentient beings in the non-abiding Nirvana, and even if they are placed, from the ultimate point of view, no sentient being will attain complete Nirvana. The "Nirvana" mentioned here refers to Nirvana as being free from both karma and afflictions and suffering, and liberation from these is Nirvana that is free from karma, afflictions, and suffering. Therefore, "freedom" also becomes the meaning of Nirvana and placing in it. This treatise explains a common person's conformity to the ultimate mind generation, and also explains the true ultimate mind generation, which only the noble ones possess. Master Kamalashila said that many views are discussed here. Moreover, the following contents of this treatise are all explained in conjunction with the view of emptiness, and it is made to understand the meaning, so it is very important. But here, fearing that there will be too much content, I will briefly say it symbolically. All mundane dharmas are only established as mere terms. Using the wisdom of ultimate truth to observe, it cannot withstand observation, and the meaning of the imputation cannot be found. In this regard, if one can recognize what is to be refuted, it is easy to refute it. Therefore, first say what the object of negation is like. Generally speaking, there are many views on what is to be refuted, but here it will be explained according to the view of the Prasangika Madhyamaka. In this regard, the sutra says, "They are established by the power of discrimination." And in the commentary on the Four Hundred Verses, it says, "Only with discrimination is there existence." And so on, and Je Tsongkhapa's "Excellent Explanation of Intent" says, "All dharmas are established by the power of discrimination." Just like this, many sutras and treatises say that all dharmas are merely imputed by discrimination and established by the power of discrimination. The analogy of all dharmas being imputed by discrimination is: in a place where the light is not good, a colored rope, some people will think that this is a snake. At that time, the collection and parts of the rope are not snakes.

However, the snake that is mistaken for a snake is merely an appearance established by conceptual thought. Similarly, although the thought of "I" arises in dependence on these aggregates, none of the aggregates' collection, continuity, or parts can be established as the basis of my designation, and there is nothing else with a different essence from the aggregates that can be taken as the basis of my designation. Therefore, that "I" is merely designated in dependence on the aggregates; it does not exist by its own nature. As it is said in the Noble Garland of Jewels: "A person is not earth, not water, not fire, not wind, not space, not consciousness, nor all of them; what person is other than these?" Thus, "not earth" to "not consciousness" negates each part of the six elements of a person, and "not all" negates the collection of the six elements as the self of a person. The last line negates a self that is different in essence from the elements. So, how is a person, a pudgala, established? It is also said in the same text: "Because a person is an aggregation of six elements, it is not truly as it appears. Likewise, each of the elements is also not truly real because of being an aggregation." Therefore, a person is merely designated on top of the aggregation of their six elements and is not truly established. Just as that is, the elements are also designated in dependence on the aggregation of their respective parts, and therefore it is shown that they are not truly established. Similarly, all phenomena such as the aggregates are also designated in dependence on their respective parts and collections, and therefore it should be applied that they are not established independently. One's own form aggregate is designated in dependence on the five faculties and so on, and the faculties are also designated in dependence on the part that has parts and the part of one's own side. Limbs such as fingers are also designated in dependence on their part that has parts and parts. A vase is designated in dependence on its mouth, base, belly, etc., and the mouth, base, etc., are also designated in dependence on their parts and the part-having vase, and so on. This can be compared to form. Consciousness and so on are also dependent on prior and subsequent moments and objects, etc., and unconditioned phenomena are also designated in dependence on their respective bases of designation. This has already been explained in detail elsewhere. Therefore, since there is no phenomenon that does not arise in dependence and is not designated in dependence, that which exists without being designated in dependence
