Moreover, metaphors such as "arising and ceasing due to uncommon karmic forces" also explain that all conditioned phenomena are without inherent existence. These are explanations that are universally applied to conditioned phenomena. In the sutra, it says: Form is like a mass of foam, feeling is like a bubble on water, perception is like a mirage, formations are like a plantain tree, and consciousness is like an illusion. This was declared by the Kinsman of the Sun (Buddha). Thus spoke the venerable Nagarjuna. The teacher Kamalashila connects the latter three with the three times, saying they are different from the former, but there is no contradiction. In short, all conditioned phenomena should be viewed as impermanent and without inherent nature, like the nine metaphors mentioned above. This also indicates both the absence of self in persons and the absence of self in phenomena. Third, the concluding sequence is: After the Blessed One had thus spoken, the venerable Subhuti, and those other one thousand two hundred and fifty monks, and those bodhisattvas, the fourfold retinue of monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen, and also the worldly beings including gods, humans, asuras, and gandharvas, rejoiced and delighted, and praised what the Blessed One had said. At the end of this, there appears a "Vajra Cutter Heart Essence Mantra," but since it has not been seen in the sutras and tantras, it must have been made and inserted by someone else. Moreover, to say that reciting this heart essence once is equivalent to reciting the Diamond Sutra ninety-nine thousand times is an excessive praise, but it is not entirely without reason. Thus, the explanation of these scriptures and many treatises is done with effort. In the Secret Inconceivable Sutra, it says: The merit of the mind of enlightenment and the merit of upholding the true Dharma, even one-sixteenth of it is not comparable to those who have faith in emptiness. It explains the meaning of expounding emptiness, and that great benefits arise from having faith in emptiness. In the Sutra Requested by the Son of the Gods, Wisdom Excellent Abode, it says: All dharmas are contained in the two, the Buddha's words and the commentaries. Well-spoken words and their commentaries, by their power, Shakya

And may the teachings also remain long in this world. As it is said, I thought whether it would be of some benefit to the teachings of the Sage, and not for any other reason. As the Teacher prophesied, the Prajnaparamita will spread from the northern direction to the lineage of the northern direction. In this northern direction, Your Holiness, according to the intention of the noble father and sons (Avalokiteshvara and Manjushri), initiated the tradition of clearly elucidating the essence of the Prajnaparamita, the pure view. I myself have also propagated in many directions the various expositions of the view that explain the intention of the Lord. In particular, the commentaries on the two texts, the Root and the Supplement, and the intention of the Heart Sutra and this profound text, which I have explained to the best of my ability, I wonder if these are also going in the direction that the Victorious One has prophesied. Therefore, it is meaningful to strive in this way. Furthermore, it is said: By the power of the wind of past accumulation of good deeds and much learning, may the wings of scripture and reason be vigorously flapped. You, a twice-born one, who travels in the sky of profound meaning, have you not fallen into the abyss of meaningless delusion? If there is any fault in this way, I confess and ask for forgiveness before the Sage, and with a loving heart, cleanse the stain of faults, and may you hold me until enlightenment! By the virtue of explaining the most profound meaning, may I, a wise person who has heard many scriptures, in all my lives, find the basis for accomplishing the path of omniscience, and quickly attain the perfect enlightenment! This commentary on the Diamond Cutter, called "The Good Path to Liberation, the Sun Illuminating Profound Meaning," was written by the Shakya monk Drakpa Shedrup at the age of seventy, in the Wood Mouse year of the twelfth Rabjung, out of faith, at Choni Monastery. The scribe was Ta'i Lhalung Lobsang Dondrup. In the Iron Dragon year, in the Saga month, I met the monk Lobsang Chojor. Mangalam! The commentary on the Diamond Cutter, "The Good Path to Liberation, the Sun Illuminating Profound Meaning."
