If one thinks that the form body will also disappear, to show that it will not disappear, (the Buddha) asks: Should this completely accomplished form body be truly regarded as the Tathagata, held and desired? The answer is: No, it should not be viewed that way. The reason is that the form body is also formed from the aggregation of causes and conditions, and is not truly accomplished, like a collection of merit, but is nominally called the form body. If one thinks that the form body exists, are its marks and signs truly existent? To explain this, (the Buddha) asks: Should the Tathagata be viewed by the perfect marks and signs? The answer is: It should not be viewed that way. One should not view the Tathagata with the true clinging that the perfect marks and signs on the Tathagata's body are truly existent. Because these perfect marks and signs are gathered and assembled things, like illusions, they are not truly accomplished as perfect marks and signs, but are only spoken of that way nominally. Such a thing has happened before, but that was because of practicing based on faith and practice; and here it is because of practicing from the position of a noble being with pure higher intention, as Kamalashila said. Similarly, the meaning of the Tathagata saying "There is no Dharma taught by the Tathagata" is also as explained above. If someone vows and says with true clinging: The Tathagata truly taught the Dharma. Then, this is clinging to non-existence as existence, bound by the true clinging of inverted delusion, which is equivalent to slandering me, the Tathagata. The reason is that Dharma and teaching Dharma are only nominal, and nothing is truly accomplished, which has been said before. Here, it is expressed by scripture: In the sutra it says: By what name, by what thing, whatever dharmas are spoken of, that and that are not existent, that is the Dharmata of all dharmas. And in the Ratnakuta Sutra it also says: Manjushri said to the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, in this, that Dharma which is spoken of by what and what, that Dharma does not exist. Whatever does not exist is emptiness.

I, as it is also said in the Pramāṇavārttika: Sounds are shown to be designated by convention. That is done for the sake of terminology. At that time, there is no own characteristic. Just like it is said. Although the meaning of these is vast, just to represent it: When speaking of phenomena such as vases, the sound actually expresses the general meaning, but the self-characteristics of vases etc. are not the direct objects of expression of the sound. Therefore, those are not established as the basis for the application of the terminology of their respective names, nor are they established independently. And the self-reverse of the expression of that sound and that sound are not truly established. If it is established there, what harm is there? There is, the noble Asanga said in the Mahāyānasaṃgraha: Because there is no mind before the name, Because of being non-existent and unmixed, Its selflessness and, The contradiction of self-mixing will be established. If we summarize the meaning of this: Sounds are applied to that and that meaning by the power of terminology, not by the power of things themselves. Because for any phenomenon such as vases, the concept of vases etc. does not arise before its name is given, and one meaning can be expressed by various names, and multiple meanings can also be expressed by one name. If it is established by the power of things themselves, then before the name is given, the thought of "that is" will also arise, and one meaning will become multiple, and multiple meanings will become one. And in the place where there are no vases etc., those names can also be used to call them, so there will also be vases etc. there, so some sentient beings will not be troubled by all the vases etc., and so on, there are many faults. Then, Subhūti asked: In the future, will sentient beings who hear this profound Dharma be able to believe it? Such a question has already appeared above, but due to the different basis and necessity. The Blessed One also considered that he had already answered this question, so he said: Those sentient beings are not sentient beings established in the ultimate truth, nor are there no sentient beings in terminology. The reason is that the reason why they are called sentient beings is because the Tathāgata has said that there are no sentient beings in the ultimate truth, but they are called sentient beings in the conventional truth. The way to establish sentient beings in the conventional truth is, as the sūtra says: Just like the limbs
