The reason for the arising of greed and other emotions is as stated in the Pramāṇavārttika: "If there is self, then one knows there is other. One clings to and hates the divisions of self and other. Because of being completely connected with these, all faults will arise." As it is said. Because of the power of such patience, I have become a Buddha, therefore, Bodhisattvas should abandon such clinging to self, generate and increase the unsurpassed Bodhicitta. Not only do they not abide in the three spheres of patience with true clinging, but they also do not abide in forms, sounds, etc. They do not abide with true clinging to any conventional truth, nor should they abide with true clinging to the ultimate truth, which is the absence of truth in conventional truths. The reason is that whatever is clung to and abides in forms, sounds, etc., is not truly existent in the ultimate truth, because they are not established. Therefore, the Tathagata said, "Bodhisattvas should give alms without abiding in any ultimate truth." This indicates that it should also be applied to other aspects such as discipline. Bodhisattvas should give alms and keep the precepts in this way, without true clinging. The very clinging to the real existence of sentient beings does not exist in the ultimate truth, and in terms of names, those sentient beings who are said to exist are not inherently existent. The reason is, Subhuti, that the Tathagata has thus declared that all dharmas are truly empty, not a false statement. The Tathagata is the one who speaks truthfully without reversing, speaks the unchanging truth, and speaks the reality of all dharmas, therefore he is not a false speaker. Subhuti, whatever dharma the Tathagata has realized or taught, whether it is the true ultimate truth or the false conventional truth, none of them are truly established. Kamalashila said: Conventional truths do not exist in the face of the wisdom that examines the ultimate truth, therefore they are not true and appear to be false. This treatise also aims to eliminate both extremes. There is no true meaning

The explanation of how there are differences in the activities of giving, etc., due to not realizing emptiness is as follows: For example, just as a person with eyes enters a great darkness and cannot clearly see any objects of form, so too, bodhisattvas who do not turn their minds towards emptiness, who are bound by clinging to reality, and who fall into the abyss of biased views, should be regarded as bodhisattvas of enlightenment similar to that example. Again, just as when dawn breaks and the sun rises, a person with eyes can see various kinds of good and bad objects, so too, bodhisattvas who are not caught up in objects bound by clinging to reality and who give completely should be regarded as similar to that example. Therefore, giving bound by clinging to reality is like a person entering darkness and not seeing forms, while giving that realizes emptiness is said to be like a person with eyes seeing forms. Furthermore, the five perfections, such as giving, that are not grasped by the wisdom that realizes emptiness are like blind people, while the perfection of wisdom that realizes emptiness is like a blind person being led by someone with eyes. The Compendium says: "Billions of blind people without a guide, do not know the way, how can they enter the city? Without wisdom, these five perfections are like having no eyes, without a guide, they cannot touch enlightenment." At the end, it is explained that if the first five perfections are not grasped by the Prajnaparamita that realizes emptiness, they are like having no eyes and cannot reach the state of Buddhahood; if they are grasped, they are like having eyes and can reach there, connecting with the previous statement: "When it is completely grasped by wisdom, then one obtains eyes and obtains this name." The glorious Chandrakirti also said in the Entering the Middle Way: "Just as a group of blind people are easily led to the desired place by one person with eyes, so too here, wisdom can make up for the deficiency of the eye faculty and attain Buddhahood." Then, the Bhagavan said that whether in the present or future, whoever arises who upholds this scripture, the Tathagata knows and sees those beings from now on.
