If it is permanent, it will not revolve; if it is impermanent, it will not revolve either. In short, although it is nominally acknowledged that sentient beings together with the aggregates of existence revolve in samsara, from the perspective of inherent existence, bondage and liberation do not exist. Permanent sentient beings cannot revolve and cannot be bound. Impermanent sentient beings are not inherently samsara, because they arise and cease in every moment, and the subject of the previous moment is not the subject of the later moment. Similarly, bondage does not exist either, because the subjects that arise and cease in every moment are different from each other, so none are bound. If there is no bondage, then liberation is also unreasonable. If someone says that in the world it is said that if the limbs are bound, the subject is bound. This is valid nominally, but not inherently, because the five aggregates are not the subject. Moreover, limbs are also nominally established in dependence on their own parts, so it is impossible to bind all the parts one by one. If someone says that the continuum and the collection revolve and are bound, that is also unreasonable, because the continuum and the collection are also established in dependence on the parts. In the seventeenth chapter, when examining karma, the distinction between good and evil karma is discussed, as well as how to avoid the extremes of permanence and annihilation. The latter has two parts: debate and answer. The first part is the debate: Root verse: If karma exists in the middle, at the time of ripening, it will become permanent; if it ceases, after ceasing, how will it produce results? It means that between the production of the different ripening result of good and evil karma, if it exists, it will become an imperishable permanent; if it does not stay in the middle, but ceases early, then how can these two produce the different ripening result? The answer is divided into the answers of other schools and the unique answer of our own school. The former mainly refers to the answering methods of the Sarvastivadins, Sautrantikas, Yogacarins, and Svatantrikas, and the latter is the answer of the Prasangikas themselves. That is, the root verse: Because karma does not arise, therefore it has no inherent existence. It means that because karma is not inherently born, it is also not inherently extinguished. Because it is not inherently extinguished, nominally, even if there are eons of time between karma and its result, the previously extinguished

Therefore, it is not contradictory for results to arise from it. The Engaging in Bodhisattva Behavior states: Because its own nature does not cease, therefore, even without the all-ground consciousness, this is capable. For some, even from actions that have ceased for a long time, understand that results will definitely arise. Similarly, even from actions that have ceased and whose own nature exists or does not exist, there will be results. And so on, it is important to know that, just as it is said that from actions that have ceased in the past, later maturation will arise. In the eighteenth chapter, in the section on examining the self and phenomena, the root verses state: If the aggregates are the self, then it will be subject to arising and ceasing. If (the self) is different from the aggregates, then it will not have the characteristics of the aggregates. If the self is one with its own aggregates and established by its own characteristics, then just as the aggregates arise and cease in each moment, the self will also arise and cease in that way. Just as these aggregates do not arise in the next life, the self will also not arise in the next life, which would be a fault. Furthermore, if the self is the same as the aggregates, then the self will become merely a name for the aggregates. Therefore, the distinction between the taker and the taken is not reasonable, and so on, there are many faults. If the self is different from the aggregates in its own nature, then the self will not possess the characteristics of the aggregates, namely the three phases of arising, ceasing, and abiding. If that is the case, then the self must exist independently of the aggregates, but that is not seen. And so on, through these reasonings, one can gain the view of selflessness. In this case, the commentary states that if the self is established by its own nature, then the self and the aggregates must be established as either one or different, established by their own characteristics. When it is seen that both of these are harmed by reason, then one becomes certain that the self is not established by its own nature at all. Gaining this certainty is gaining the view of realizing that the object of grasping of the co-emergent ego-clinging lacks its own nature. As it is said. Having gained such a view, one can be established as a Madhyamika, because even the Hinayana practitioner who realizes suchness is a Madhyamika. The commentary states: The Hinayana practitioners who realize the suchness of persons and phenomena are Madhyamikas because they have abandoned the extremes of falling into the abyss of permanence and annihilation with a view that is free from extremes. It should be understood in this way.
