Because of that. The wise person mentioned earlier is not the doer of that action, because they have directly seen that suchness as it is. If that is the case, if there is ignorance, then formations and so on arise, and if there is no ignorance, they do not arise. Therefore, if ignorance ceases, that is, is abandoned, then formations and so on will not arise in any way, because the cause is not complete. Then what stops ignorance? The cessation of ignorance occurs because by knowing the suchness of dependent arising, relying on meditating on the meaning of that suchness, ignorance and so on gradually cease. Then, because the previous limbs such as formations have ceased, the subsequent limbs will not manifest. In this way, the great mass of suffering of the yogi will not arise again, and therefore it will truly cease, that is, be exhausted. The second is: The examination of the twelve limbs of existence, called the explanation of the twenty-sixth differentiation treatise. Third, there are three ways to turn away from wrong views by realizing dependent arising: explaining the tenets of the treatise, combining it with definitive meaning scriptures, and stating the names. The first has two parts: ascertaining the sixteen wrong views, and how one does not abide in them by realizing dependent arising. The first is: 'The past time has arisen, saying it has arisen, the world is permanent, etc., whatever views there are, they all rely on the former extreme. The future time will arise, not arise, the world's end, etc., whatever views there are, they all rely on the latter extreme.' Thus it is said. Whether in the past time, the self has arisen or not arisen, and the view that it is both or neither, and the world is permanent, etc., that is, the world is impermanent, and the view that it is both or neither, these eight views are all called the former extreme for the past body, the extreme is the former part of the cycle of birth and death, and relying on it is the meaning of the object. Whether I will arise or not arise in the future time, and the four views that are both or neither, and the world has an end, etc., and the four views that are both or neither, these are all for the aggregates that will arise later

There are sixteen arising dependent on the edge called "ignorance." The second part has two points: first, in terms of conventional truth, refuting the adherence to those views by way of dependent origination like reflections; second, in terms of ultimate truth, refuting the adherence to those views because all elaborations are pacified. The first part has four points: refuting the first set of four views that rely on the prior extreme; by refuting that, showing that the first set of four views that rely on the posterior extreme are also refuted; refuting the second set of four views that rely on the prior extreme; refuting the second set of four views that rely on the posterior extreme. The first point has two parts: refuting the two views of whether it existed or did not exist in the past, and summarizing and showing that the other two views are unreasonable. The first part has two points: refuting the view that it existed in the past, and refuting the view that it did not exist at that time. The first point has two parts: the actual refutation, and the conclusion of the refutation. The first is: "To say 'it existed in the past,' this is not reasonable. Whatever arose in former lives, that itself is not this. If you think that itself becomes the self, then the aggregates become different. Apart from the aggregates, what self of yours exists? If you say there is no self apart from the aggregates, then if the aggregates are the self, your self is not non-existent. The aggregates themselves are not the self, because they are subject to arising and ceasing. How can the aggregates become the agent of taking? The self is not established in any other way than from the aggregates. If there is form apart from the aggregates, then it would be like having form but being intangible." Thus it is said. The view that the self existed in former lives is not reasonable, because the self that arose in former lives is not this self in this life. The self-view is that although the particular selves of former lives did not arise in this life by their own nature, there is a general self that is nominally applied to all past and future lives in a general way, and each of the past and future selves is a part of it, and therefore related to it. Because of this, what is done by the self of this life also becomes what is done by the general self. Therefore, when the self of this life remembers a previous birth, that previous
