A Ship to Enter the Ocean of Wisdom: A Commentary on the Root Verses on the Middle Way, Wisdom. A Ship to Enter the Ocean of Wisdom: A Commentary on the Root Verses on the Middle Way, Wisdom. The treatise called A Ship to Enter the Ocean of Wisdom: A Commentary on the Root Verses on the Middle Way, Wisdom, is present. A Ship to Enter the Ocean of Wisdom: A Commentary on the Root Verses on the Middle Way, Wisdom. I respectfully prostrate and take refuge in the feet of the inseparable Lord Manjushri and the great venerable Tsongkhapa. Please hold me with compassion and grant me the supreme wisdom to fully realize the profound meaning. The two accumulations perfect the ten powers of the body, the claws and fangs of the fearless Samadhi of Dhāraṇī blaze. With the turquoise mane of the four individual perfect knowledges, I bow to the Lion of Speech, the Sage King. In the great assembly of all the infinite Buddhas, there is no match for proclaiming the profound meaning. Known as the great treasure of knowledge, the Lord of Speech, I prostrate to his feet. The Victor himself explained the profound meaning, and as prophesied, opened the tradition of the chariot. Illuminating the teachings of the Sage, Nagarjuna and Chandrakirti, I bow to the second Buddha and his spiritual sons. From the ocean of the venerable Guru's teachings, which is manifestly elevated like the supreme Mount Meru, I will briefly write down the profound essence of the great commentary, the Ocean of Reasoning, with discernment and faith. Here, our teacher himself, in the three scriptures of the extensive, intermediate, and concise Mother Sutras, and in many other scriptures, spoke of the profound meaning of emptiness. As the noble Nagarjuna has well established it, I will explain it as it was clearly shown by the Lord himself. There are two parts to this: how the noble one explained it, and the meaning of the present context. Firstly, in general, the noble one composed many treatises on Sutra and Tantra. In particular, he composed the six collections of Middle Way reasoning to explain the profound meaning. He established the profound meaning through the two doors of scripture and reasoning. That is, the main support from the door of scripture is the Compendium of Sutras, and the main support from the door of reasoning is the Root Verses on the Middle Way, Wisdom, and so on. The latter is established because the Root Verses on Wisdom mainly establish the emptiness of phenomena, the absence of inherent existence, through reasoning. Detailed

Through diligence, the wisdom that possesses the understanding of profound meaning is shown to be the root for attaining both liberation and omniscience. The Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness generally explain how actions and agents are established in the absence of inherent existence. The Refutation of Objections specifically explains how refutation and establishment are established. The Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning explain that the view that abandons the two extremes is the root for attaining liberation, and the Precious Garland explains that this view is also the root for attaining omniscience. Therefore, among these treatises, the Root Wisdom is like the body, and the other five are treatises like limbs that extend from it. The benefits of hearing and contemplating the profound meaning, as stated in the Diamond Cutter Sutra and others, are also found in the words of Je Rinpoche, which are compiled from all the sutras, and are easy to understand. The second part has three sections: the meaning of the title, the meaning of the text, and the meaning of the conclusion. The first is: The title of this treatise, in the language of India, is Prajñānāma-mūlamādhyamaka-kārikā. When translated into Tibetan, Prajñā is wisdom, Mādhyamaka is the Middle Way, Mūla is root, Kārikā is verses, and Nāma is named. The meaning is that wisdom refers to teaching the Prajñāpāramitā, the Middle Way refers to teaching the meaning of the Middle Way that is free from the two extremes of permanence and annihilation, the root refers to being like the basis of all other Middle Way treatises, verses refer to being composed in verse form, and Nāma refers to being named, that is, the name is called that. The second part has three sections: praising the teacher through the door of teaching dependent origination, explaining how dependent origination is free from the eight extremes, and paying homage in remembrance of the teacher's kindness. The first part has two sections: the general meaning and the branch meaning. The first is: dependent origination being free from the eight extremes is the subject matter of this treatise, understanding that meaning based on this is the purpose, the ultimate nirvana of the pacification of all elaborations is the ultimate purpose, and the connection of the latter three dharmas to the former is the connection of this treatise. Although it is so in reality, here it is not directly shown to be so by means of offering praise. Although emptiness is briefly taught in the sutras of the Lesser Vehicle, it is distinguished by being extensively taught in the Great Vehicle with many kinds of reasoning. The Protector said: Therefore, you have fully taught it in the Great Vehicle.
