Because, at the time when the fruit arises, the conditions are endowed with activity. As you have admitted, they are not endowed with activity before that, so it is reasonable. Therefore, at the time of being a transmitting cause, even if the act of that fruit arising is accomplished, that fruit has not yet arisen, because that act exists only at the time of the actual cause. Therefore, if it is a condition, then at its own time, it is not necessary for the act of that fruit arising to actually exist. Second, regarding the issue of existence or non-existence, a condition is not suitable, because if it does not exist, what would it become a condition for? If it exists, what would the condition do? That is what (Shantideva) said. If you say that because there is a relationship of "relying on this, this arises," therefore this is established as the condition of this, that is also unreasonable, because there is a relationship of "relying on the seed, it arises," therefore it cannot be established that it arises naturally from the condition, because at the time of the seed, whether it exists or does not exist, it is actually not suitable as a condition. "Dam" indicates that if it exists as a condition, it must exist in either of the two, and "te" indicates introducing the remainder. The proof is as follows: At the time of its own cause, the seed, the fruit does not exist by its own nature, and non-existence is also not by its own nature, because if the seed is established by its own nature as non-existent before the fruit arises, then what fruit would that seed become a condition for? If the seed exists at the time of the seed, then it also cannot be established as a condition for the fruit, because what is the use of a condition that establishes again what has already been established? Because it is not needed. Second, the separate refutations are divided into four parts: refuting the definition of the causal condition, similarly, the objective condition, the immediately preceding condition, and refuting the definition of the dominant condition. First, when the dharma exists, non-existence and existence-non-existence cannot be established, then how can it be called a cause that can establish? If that is the case, it is unreasonable. That is what (Shantideva) said. If you say that because there is a definition of causal condition, therefore the causal condition actually exists, that is unreasonable, because when the dharma of the fruit is examined in its own cause as existing, non-existing, and both existing and non-existing, the cause actually cannot be established, therefore, if that is the case, how can the definition of the cause that can establish be said to exist by its own nature?

Because it is not allowed. If that is the case, then it is unreasonable to say that cause and condition are truly existent. If the cause exists in time, then proving it through the cause will make birth meaningless and endless. Even if the cause cannot prove the non-thing that does not exist in time, in this case, the cause will only prove what is about to happen. The second point is: clinging to the existing dharma is only to show non-existence. If the dharma clings to non-existence, then how can clinging exist? It is said like this. If you think that the place of consciousness, that is, the condition of clinging, exists by its own nature, then, do you think that this condition of clinging exists before its object of clinging is clung to, or does not exist? The first statement is unreasonable, because clinging to the existing dharma, such as the mind, etc., is only to show non-existence, and you think that this is related to clinging. Because you admit that the condition of clinging already exists before it depends on the object of clinging being clung to. If, according to the latter investigation method, it is thought that the condition of clinging does not exist before the object of clinging is clung to, and only exists later, this is also unreasonable. If so, then how can there be clinging to the clinging dharma, that is, the mind and mental factors? Because you admit that the existence after clinging itself is the condition of clinging. According to your view, there is no connection between the object of clinging and the clinger, because when the object of clinging exists, the clinger does not exist, and when the clinger exists, the object of clinging does not exist. Here, merely nominal clinging cannot be denied, so what is to be denied is non-dependence or true existence. The Sautrantikas and others believe that the condition of clinging of consciousness arises before itself, which is a rather difficult point. The third point is: if the dharmas have not arisen, then cessation is also unreasonable. Therefore, what is the cause if the immediately following kind ceases? It is said like this. If it is thought that other things arise from other things immediately after they have ceased, therefore it exists by its own nature, then, the dharmas of the fruit such as sprouts, etc., as the subject, their own cause, that is, the seed has just ceased, should not be your immediately following condition, because if it is not arising, that is, before arising, your seed ceasing is unreasonable. The reason is that you
