This can be understood from the Madhyamaka treatises, but I will not say much here because there are many doubts. Secondly, regarding the refutation of other-origination, one should also understand the manner of stating faults and the manner of avoiding them elsewhere. In short, these root texts explicitly make the commitment that there is no origination from the four extremes, and although they do not directly show the proof, it is clearly shown in most of the subsequent texts and commentaries. Those who accept the four extremes of origination hold that the entities that are to be produced are established by their own nature, and thus they believe that they originate from any of the four extremes. Here, the very fact that entities originate in dependence on causes and conditions refutes the four extremes of origination. In this way, origination from no cause is easy to refute. Even if there is a cause, it must originate from a cause that is either the same or different in essence from itself. If one believes that it originates from a cause that is the same in essence as itself, that is believing in self-origination, so it can be refuted by the fact that it becomes meaningless to originate again, and so on. If one believes that it originates from a different, unrelated, other entity, that is believing in other-origination. Since it can be refuted by the reasoning that refutes the origination of everything from everything, the belief that it originates from both can be refuted by those reasonings. The second part has two parts: debate and answer. The first part is: The Realists of our own school say: It is unreasonable to originate from the nature of one's own cause, so self-origination is unreasonable. Because that is unreasonable, origination from both is also unreasonable. Origination from no cause is extremely inferior, so it is unreasonable. However, it is unreasonable to refute other-origination by saying "it does not originate from another," because the Victorious One said that the four conditions are the only producers of the fruits that change into others. What are they? The four conditions are cause and, object, and immediately preceding, and also dominant condition; there is no fifth condition. Thus, there are four types of conditions: the causal condition that abides in the nature of the seed, which is the accomplisher of the fruit; likewise, the objective condition by which any mind and mental factors arise; the immediately preceding condition by which the fruit is produced immediately after the cessation of the cause; and the dominant condition, which, when it exists, freely produces anything.

The fifth cause does not exist, because the self-natures of causes with different names are all included in those four. Other things that are established, such as self-existent, permanent, etc., cannot be causes. Therefore, it is said that denying other-origination contradicts the scriptures. Second, the answer is twofold: denying self-nature origination, and denying that self-nature is other. First: The self-natures of things are not in the causes, etc. If one's own thing does not exist, then other things also do not exist. So it is said. The self-natures of the fruit's things, that is, the essence, such as sprouts, etc., are the subject of debate. In any of the seed and other causal aggregates, as well as favorable conditions and both, etc., before self-origination, it does not exist by relying on the manner of different entities, because if it exists in that way, then it is refuted by the unseen that can be seen, and again, arising will become meaningless. The self-entity of the fruit, such as sprouts, etc., is the subject of debate. It is not from its own cause, that is, the seed and other things that arise from other things, that it exists by its own nature, therefore it does not arise from others, because it does not exist at the time of its own cause, the seed. The pervasion is established, if the seed arises from other things by its own nature, then it must also exist as the basis of action at the time of the seed. There is reason for that, if it is established by its own nature, then it must exist as the dependent basis at all times of establishment, and if that does not exist, then the meaning of being established by its own nature is incomplete, therefore it will become existence in name only. That is, the action of the sprout arising is the basis, and the sprout is the dependent or the agent. If it is established by its own nature once it becomes the dependent basis, then it must be so at all times. When it is said that the sprout arises from its own seed, the sprout that is born does not exist at the time of the seed, and it is not the sprout that exists at the time of the seed that arises. But in name, relative to the change of arising, it is reasonable to say that the sprout arises from the seed, therefore there is the agent sprout of the action of arising. If it arises by its own nature, then as it is said that the sprout arises from its own seed, that sprout must exist at the time of its own seed and arise, if not, then arising is unreasonable, therefore it will become self-origination existing. One's own tenet is that although the sprout does not exist at the time of its own seed, that
