M. Explanation of emptiness by dependent arising. How understanding or not understanding it causes one to revolve or be liberated from samsara. Understanding it reverses wrong views. The first part has two points: the main point and refuting objections. The first part has two points: a brief explanation of the two selflessnesses and a detailed explanation. The first part has two points: examining the function of cause and effect to negate the inherent existence of phenomena, and examining the function of going and coming to negate the inherent existence of individuals. The first part has three points: explaining the treatise's distinctions, combining it with definitive scriptures, and stating the title. The first part has two points: negating the inherent existence of arising in the result, and negating the inherent existence of conditions in the producer. The first part has two points: negating the four extremes of arising, and refuting scriptural contradictions to negating arising from other. The first part has two points: making a commitment to negate arising, and the reasoning for negating it. The first part has two points: the main point and the implied meaning. The main point is: Not from self, not from other, Not from both, not without cause. Whatever things, wherever, Arising never exists. Thus it is said. The meaning is: Any internal or external phenomena, subject. Arising never exists from self in any place, time, or philosophical system, because if it arises from self, there would be the fault of arising again being meaningless and arising again being endless. For example, a sprout, subject. Arising again in the second moment of its own cause is meaningless, because at the time of its own cause, its own nature is already completely established. If not pervasive, then that, subject. You will arise again without end, because even though you have already obtained your own nature at the time of your own cause, arising again is still meaningful. Any phenomena, subject. Arising never exists from other in any place, time, or philosophical system, because if it arises from other, it would follow that everything arises from everything. For example, a seed, subject. It is unrelated to a sprout, becoming another meaning. Because it is other unrelated to a sprout. If you accept, then just as a sprout arises from you, everything like stones and coal will arise. Because a sprout is unrelated to you, is another meaning, but still arises, therefore the sign is accepted. Similarly, any phenomena, subject. Arising never exists from both self and other in any place, time, or philosophical system, because it does not arise from self, nor from other.

Because karma does not arise, because the reasoning has already been explained. Whatever phenomena are the subject, arising from no cause, in any place, time, or tenet, is never possible, because if it arises from no cause, then certainty in different places and times is unreasonable, and the efforts to establish causes will become meaningless. For example, a sprout is the subject; it does not arise from no cause, because the definite arising in different places and times is seen, and the effort to establish causes for the sake of the fruit is also seen and is meaningful. Second, here it is necessary to understand the difference between the two negations, so its manner has been explained in detail elsewhere and should be understood from there. In summary, negative negation is: cutting off the object to be negated directly by the mind, without drawing out another dharma, such as self-nature does not exist and things do not exist. Non-negative negation is: cutting off the object to be negated by the mind, while drawing out another dharma, such as being different from non-pot, and non-pot exists. Furthermore, as it is said: negation is shown through meaning, one word establishes, it has the characteristic of not showing its own words, thus there appear four, which are easy to understand. The meaning of clinging to the four commitments stated here is negative negation, and the non-existence of self-nature of a sprout is also negative negation, so even though the non-existence of self-nature of a sprout has been established by reason, the existence of the non-existence of self-nature has not been established in any way, either directly or indirectly. However, in between, without relying on other valid cognitions, solely by the power of intelligence, one can generate a mind that directly contradicts the doubt and the way of clinging to the doubt that the self-nature of the sprout does not exist, and it itself can cut off that doubt, because this is a rather difficult point, so it needs to be examined carefully. If this is not well understood, when cultivating the view, if one does not make the negative negation of the non-existence of self-nature the object of the mind's clinging, but instead establishes the non-negative negation as the object of the mind, then it will become an obstacle to obtaining the view. The second part is divided into two parts: the reasoning for preventing self-arising and other-arising. The first part is: Buddhapalita said that things do not arise from themselves, because their arising would become meaningless, and the arising would become endless. To this, the teacher Sthiramati raised objections, and Chandrakirti explained the way to eliminate those objections.
