Therefore, the Buddha transcends all elaborations. Because of the nature of no arising, there is no exhaustion of the nature transforming into otherness. The elaborations made by the inverted thoughts of permanence and impermanence, etc., mentioned earlier, those elaborations will damage the eye of wisdom, and all of those will not be able to see the suchness of the Tathagata, just like a blind person cannot see the sun. In the Diamond Sutra, it says, "Those who see me in form." This refers to such a meaning. Because being bound by the conceptual thought of clinging to reality, if the form body of the Buddha is grasped as real, then the Dharmakaya suchness cannot be seen. The fourth is: Whatever is the nature of the Tathagata, that is the nature of this sentient being. The Tathagata has no nature, and this sentient being also has no nature. So on and so forth. Examining the existence or non-existence of the Tathagata in five ways is also examining the world of sentient beings. Just as the Tathagata has no nature, sentient beings also have no nature. Because whatever the nature of the Tathagata is, the nature of this sentient being is also the same. What is the nature of the Tathagata? The Tathagata is merely imputed in dependence on the aggregates, therefore there is no establishment of self-nature. Similarly, these sentient beings are also imputed in dependence on this and that, therefore there is no self-nature of establishment, because it has been said above. The second is the Sutra of the Ornament of the Light of Wisdom, and so on. The third is the commentary on the twenty-second chapter of the treatise called "Examination of the Tathagata." Second, refuting the inherent existence of afflictions, in three parts: explaining the text of the treatise, connecting with scripture, and indicating the title. The first has two parts: the main point and refuting its proof. The first has five parts: refuting with the reason of dependent origination, refuting with the reason of dependent origination being without inherent existence, refuting with the reason of the cause being without inherent existence, refuting with the reason of the object being without inherent existence, and refuting with another reason of the cause being without inherent existence. The first is: Attachment, hatred, and ignorance, etc., are said to arise from pervasive thought. Lovely and unlovely are inverted.

All arise from dependence. Whatever arises dependent on the pleasant and unpleasant, and on perversion, these are not from their own nature. Therefore, afflictions are not truly existent. If you think that afflictions are the cause of existence, so they exist by their own nature, the Sutra says that attachment, hatred, and ignorance arise from inappropriate conceptualization. That is, attachment arises depending on the appearance of the pleasant, hatred arises from the unpleasant, and the collection of ignorance arises entirely from dependence on inappropriate perversion. Whatever arises dependent on pleasant objects, unpleasant objects, and perversion, these are not from their own nature. If they existed by their own nature, they should arise without depending on conditions. But it does not happen that way; instead, they depend on pleasant, unpleasant, and other objects. Therefore, those afflictions, such as attachment, are not truly existent, because they arise depending on the pleasant, unpleasant, and so on. The three poisons are easy to understand, and conceptualization is seeing things as pleasant, unpleasant, and so on. Since these arise depending on perverse objects, it is easy to ascertain that they are empty of inherent existence. Other afflictions that arise from them can also be ascertained to be empty of inherent existence. The second part has two points: refuting by the sign of the absence of self as a basis, and refuting by the sign of the absence of mind as a basis. The first is: The existence and non-existence of self cannot be established in any way. If that does not exist, how can the existence and non-existence of afflictions be established? Whose are these afflictions? That (self) is also not established as existing. Afflictions do not exist in anything that does not exist. The existence and non-existence of "mine" cannot be established by their own nature in any way, as has been said before. Since that does not exist, how can the existence and non-existence of afflictions that depend on self and "mine" be established by their own nature? Because the basis does not exist by its own nature, the afflictions that depend on it cannot possibly exist by their own nature. These afflictions, phenomena, do not arise without a basis of whose they are, just like a painting on a wall depends on a basis. That basis, phenomena, by its own nature
