Or, the way of reasoning that does not depend on intrinsic nature is that, through this method, regarding the past, present, and future, whether dependent or not, one should understand the refutation of the existence of intrinsic nature. For example, "The past and the future, if they exist dependent on the present," and so on. And "The past and the present, if they depend on the future," and so on, one needs to transform them into the desired way to understand. The third point is: "Superior (Tibetan: མཆོག) and inferior (Tibetan: ཐ་མ) and intermediate (Tibetan: འབྲིང་), etc., should also be understood as one, etc." As mentioned above, through this order, superior (Tibetan: མཆོག) and inferior (Tibetan: ཐ་མ) and intermediate (Tibetan: འབྲིང་), etc., that is, the three of virtue, non-virtue, and unspecified, and the three of birth, dwelling, and destruction, etc., and the many sets of three such as one, two, three, etc., and all related things, should be understood through separate explanations. Because whether they are mutually dependent or not, none of them are established by intrinsic nature. The second part is divided into two points: refuting the time admitted by other schools, and refuting the time admitted by the realists of our own school. The first point is: "Time that does not abide is not apprehended, because the time to be apprehended is not permanently existent, so how can the unapprehended time be established?" Other schools say: Time exists by its own nature, because moments, instants, short periods, days and nights, etc., have other meanings of measurement. To this, it is unreasonable. Because time is destroyed moment by moment, it is not permanent, and it is not apprehended through moments, etc., which are different in essence from time. The latter is not established, because time is merely established dependent on these. They say: Time makes things mature, etc., so there is permanent time. This is unreasonable, because the time of moments, etc., that can be clearly apprehended is not permanently existent. Because time, which is different in essence from moments and instants, etc., has been negated by whether it can be observed or not. Because no valid cognition can apprehend such an existence. Therefore, the unapprehended time cannot be established by the measure of moments, etc., because they are unrelated. The second point is: If time is the basis of entities.

Where is time when there is no object? If there are no objects, how can time exist? If there is no permanent time, then is the time that is differentiated based on moments, etc., existent in its essence? If there are no objects such as form, i.e., if there is no time that is different in essence from them, then where is time? Because time is established in dependence on objects. If no object exists by its own nature, then how can the time attributed to it exist by its own nature? Because if the basis of imputation is not established by its own essence, then the imputed phenomenon cannot be established by its own essence. The classification of the three times has already been explained in my commentary on the "Entering the Path of Bodhisattvas," etc., so I will not explain it here. The second is the "Elephant Strength Sutra," etc. The third is the commentary on the nineteenth chapter of "Analysis of Time." Next, refuting the proof that time exists by its own nature is divided into two parts: refuting that time is a co-operative cause of the arising of effects, and refuting that it is the cause of the arising and destruction of effects. The first part is divided into three points: explaining the text of the treatise, quoting scriptures, and stating the name. The first part is divided into three points: refuting arising from the aggregation of causes and conditions, refuting arising from the cause itself, and explaining other reasons for refuting arising from the aggregation. The first part is divided into three points: refuting arising from the previous aggregation, the simultaneous aggregation, and the subsequent aggregation. The first part is divided into two points: refuting direct arising from the aggregation. The first part is divided into two points: whether existence or non-existence arises in the aggregation, and refuting existence or non-existence itself in it. The first point is: If the aggregation of causes and conditions itself arises, and if there is a result in the aggregation, then how can it arise from the aggregation itself? If the aggregation of causes and conditions itself arises, and if there is no result in the aggregation, then how can it arise from the aggregation itself? If the result arises directly from the aggregation of causes and conditions, then does existence arise or does non-existence arise? If it is the former, then it is unreasonable. If it is reasonable, then the aggregation of causes and conditions itself will arise as a self-existent result, and if there is a result in the aggregation of causes and conditions, then how can it be said that the aggregation of causes and conditions itself arises as a self-existent result? This is unreasonable, because there is a result in the aggregation.
