Similarly, it is because of emptiness of inherent existence. Not only the example of illusion, but also through these other examples, one should understand how actions and agents are established in the absence of inherent existence. For example, afflictions such as attachment, as well as merit and non-merit, as well as unwavering actions and bodies, as well as agents and ripened fruits, are like a city of Gandharvas, like mirages and dreams, one should recognize that they do not exist in inherent existence, because they are the same. The second is: scriptures such as the "Cloud of Jewels Sutra". The third is: the commentary on the seventeenth chapter of the treatise called "Examination of Actions". Third, there are three ways to enter the reality of selflessness: explaining the text of the treatise, combining it with scriptures, and indicating the name. The first part has five points: the way to enter reality, eliminating contradictions with scriptures, the order of guiding into reality, the definition of reality, and explaining that it is necessary to truly realize this meaning. The first part has two points: establishing the view, and the way to eliminate faults through practice. The first part has two points: refuting that the self is established by its own nature, and thereby refuting that what belongs to the self is established by its own nature. The first part has two points: first, the way of examining, and then the way of establishing the view. The first is: what needs to be understood from the "Great Commentary". The second part has two points: refuting that the self and aggregates are of the same nature, and refuting that they are of different natures. The first is: If the aggregates are the self, then they will become subject to arising and ceasing. Thus it is said. In general, although there is a self in name, here it is done from the perspective of negating its inherent existence, therefore, one should consider whether the self and aggregates are of the same nature or different, because if it exists, it does not go beyond being one or different. After observing in this way, if the aggregates and the self are both inherently existing by their own characteristics, that is unreasonable, because the self will become a momentary phenomenon of arising and ceasing. The reason for this is that the aggregates are seen to arise and cease. If the self and aggregates are only the general aspect of the same nature, then the aggregates of this life and the self will also become one, which is unreasonable, because the aggregates of this life will not be reborn in the next life, or like the self being reborn in the next life, the aggregates of this life

Moreover, because you will also take rebirth in the future. Furthermore, if the self arises and ceases with each moment of the aggregates, that is also unreasonable. Because it is impossible to establish a connection between each moment that is established by its own nature, it is impossible to remember past lives, which is too far-fetched. In addition, if each of the individual aggregates is the same as the self, that is also unreasonable. Because just as there are many aggregates, if the self also has many different entities existing at the same time, that has not been seen. If neither is the case, then the self becomes merely a name for the aggregates. And there is the fault that all takers and taken become one. The second point is: If it is other than the aggregates, it will lose the characteristics of the aggregates. If that self is established as naturally other than the aggregates, it is unreasonable. Because that self will lose the characteristics of the aggregates, which are represented as conditioned phenomena, namely the three: arising, abiding, and ceasing. Just as a horse is different from the characteristics of a cow. The self has the characteristics represented by the conditioned aggregates, because it is designated as the self based on the aggregates, and the self's arising, abiding, and ceasing are determined by the way the aggregates do so. Furthermore, from the fact that the form aggregate is capable of being form, and the feeling aggregate has the characteristic of experiencing, etc., it follows that the self is inherently different. Because the self and the aggregates are established as different in essence. If you admit, just as you perceive mind as different from form, then the self is also essentially different from the aggregates. In short, if the self and the aggregates are established as one by their own nature, then the general self and the particular selves will become one, so that the general self applies to this life and both previous and subsequent lives. Similarly, all the particular selves should also exist in all previous and subsequent lives. Or, just as the particular selves, such as the self of this life, do not occur in all previous and subsequent lives, so too should the general self be the same. If the two are different by their own nature, then the selves of the three lives, past, present and future, become unrelated individuals, and so on. The second point is: If the self is not existent, how can what belongs to the self exist? If you think that what belongs to the self is established by its own nature, then, as explained, the self is not of its own nature.
