Because there is no cessation, if there is no fabrication, it must be like unmade woolen cloth, etc. Therefore, the distinction of "this is doing good, this is doing evil" is also reasonable. Because these two will arise even without fabrication. The second is: That which has matured, again and again matures. If self-nature exists, why does it abide in that? Thus it is said. Karma, the subject, even if it has matured, will again and again produce uninterrupted ripening. Because self-nature exists. The pervasion exists, if karma exists by self-nature, then whether the ripening has arisen or not, that karma must abide in its own essence without diminishing. The second has three: refuting the proof of karma existing by self-nature, refuting the proof of both karma and afflictions existing by self-nature, and refuting other proofs of karma existing by self-nature. The first is: This karma is of the nature of affliction, those afflictions are not real. If afflictions are not real, how is karma real? Thus it is said. Contaminated karma arises from the nature of affliction. And those afflictions, the subject, are not truly existent, because they arise from the power of conceptual thought. If those afflictions are not truly existent, then the karma arising from it, the subject, how is it real? Because your cause is not truly established. The second is: Karma and afflictions, these, have been shown as the cause of bodies. If karma and afflictions, those empty, how is it said of the body? Thus it is said. The Victorious One has shown karma and afflictions as the cause of bodies. If karma and afflictions have been established as empty in nature, then the result of those karmas, the body, the subject, what more is there to say to you that it has no self-nature? Because there is no need to explain separately. The third is: The person obscured by ignorance, the one with desire is the eater. That is also not different from the action, that is it, that is also not that. Why is it that this karma does not arise from conditions, does not arise from non-conditions.

It does not exist. Therefore, the doer also does not exist. If karma and the doer do not exist, then where does the fruit born from karma exist? If the fruit does not exist, then where does the enjoyer exist? Someone might say: The enjoyer of the fruit of karma exists naturally. Beings obscured by ignorance, those who possess the bonds of craving, are the enjoyers of the fruit of karma. Moreover, the enjoyer is not different from the doer of the cause, and the enjoyer itself is not the doer of the karma, because it cannot be said to be the same or different. If so, then this karma, in terms of its nature, cannot be naturally produced from conditions, because it has already been said that what arises from four conditions is not naturally existent. It is also impossible for it not to arise from conditions, because such a thing does not exist. Therefore, the doer of karma is also not naturally existent. If karma and the doer are not naturally existent, then how could the fruit born from karma be established in essence? It does not exist. If the fruit of karma does not exist in essence, then how could its enjoyer be established in essence? Because if both cause and effect exist in essence, they exist together, and if they do not exist, they do not exist together; the two are the same. Third, how the Teacher manifests emanation: By the perfection of miraculous power he emanates, The emanation also when emanating, Again, like emanating another. Likewise, the doer from that which is done, What is done is also like the aspect of emanation. For example, an emanation emanates another emanation, In the same way, the principle of acting is the same. Afflictions, karma, and bodies, The doer and the fruits, Like a city of gandharvas, Like mirages and dreams. If karma and its fruit are not naturally existent, then all the classifications of karma and its fruit spoken by the Teacher would become slander. But there is no fault in that. For example, the Teacher emanates an emanation by the perfection of miraculous power, and when that emanation also emanates, that emanation again emanates another emanation. Although these two emanations are empty in essence, it is reasonable to do and be done in conventional terms. Likewise, the doer of karma is empty in essence, like the aspect of an emanation. Whatever little karma that doer does is like an emanation emanating another emanation.
