Moreover, not only is otherness inherently nonexistent for a single thing such as observation, but it is also unreasonable for any thing to inherently possess otherness together with any other thing, because the way in which the harm of reasoning enters is similar. The third part has two sections: stating the sign and refuting faults. The first is: The other depends on the other to be other, without the other, it will not become other. What depends on what to be what, that should not be other than that. This means that the statement that the pot is other than the cloth, that other is the subject, it is established as other by depending on the cloth, because without depending on the cloth, the other pot will not become other than the cloth. Whatever dharma depends on what to be established as other, that subject, should not be inherently other than that which is depended upon, because all of you who establish otherness must depend on another other to be established. The second part has two sections: refuting the uncertain and refuting the fault of non-establishment. The first is: If the other is other than the other, then without the other it will become other. Without the other it will become other, it does not exist, therefore it does not exist. This means that the pot is other than the cloth in name, but not other in nature, if the other pot is inherently other than the other cloth, then without depending on the other cloth, the pot alone must also be said to be other than the cloth, because that is not seen. The pot is other than the cloth, that is because it depends on the cloth, so it does not exist in nature, because without the other cloth, the pot becoming other than the cloth does not exist. The self-system is: even if the pot does not depend on the cloth, the pot is other or different than the cloth, it is necessary to make the distinction of depending on the cloth, although the pot is established as other than the cloth, in general, whether this pot is established as other should be examined, because although this pot is different from the cloth, it cannot be established as different, because the pot and the pillar etc. each must be established as one. However, it must be admitted that otherness or difference, and self or one, exist on the pot. The second part is: Otherness itself does not exist on the other, nor does non-otherness exist.

It is. If otherness does not exist, then thatness does not exist in another place. Here, the generality of "otherness" is established in the distinct difference of another place, but it does not actually exist, because the generality of "otherness" that does not depend on clarity is impossible. Moreover, non-other is also not the generality of otherness, because other and non-other are contradictory. If the generality of "otherness" does not exist as previously stated, then the non-one otherness itself cannot exist by its own nature, because other and non-one otherness are mutually dependent and established. The second is: That does not meet with that, nor does other meet with other. If it is thought that because there is aggregation, meeting and seeing, etc., also exist by their own nature, then that is not reasonable. If they exist by their own nature, then are they one or different? If it is the former, then there is no term for any dharma to meet with itself, because meeting is defined as meeting with another. If it is the latter, then others who abide separately by their own nature will not meet with others, just as milk that is far away from water is not considered to meet with water. The second is: The one that is meeting, the one that has met, and the one that meets also do not exist. If meeting exists by its own nature, then does it meet from all parts, or does one direction meet and one direction not meet? If it is the former, then from all parts, everything will become one and mixed. If it is the latter, then meeting by its own nature is contradictory, therefore, the one that is meeting, the one that has met, and the one that meets, also do not exist as established by their own nature. The self-view is that in name, mother and child, fire and wood, milk and water, etc., are considered to have parts that meet, but the way of meeting seems to be undiscoverable when examined with the wisdom that investigates ultimate truth. The second is like quoting the Sutra Requested by Nearness. The third is the commentary on the fourteenth chapter of the treatise called "Examination of Meeting." Second, refuting that the closely grasping condition exists by its own nature, is divided into three: explaining the tenets of the treatise, combining with scripture, and indicating the name. First, two: refuting that all things exist by their own nature, and that asserting that they exist by their own nature does not go beyond the extremes of permanence and annihilation. The first is divided into two: its basis for proof.
