If another thing causes that birth, then that birth also needs to be produced by another thing, and that other thing also needs to be produced by another thing, which is unreasonable. Because in this way, it will endlessly repeat. If the act of birth occurs without another thing, that is also unreasonable. Because all things that are being born, etc., will also similarly be born without another thing, which you do not want. Second, refutation: For a moment, existence and non-existence are not birth, and existence and non-existence themselves are not. This has already been shown above. It means that birth is not self-established. For a moment, existence at the time of the cause, and non-existence at that time, are not birth. Existence and non-existence themselves are not born by nature, as has been explained earlier in the section "Regarding the meaning of existence or non-existence." Third, refutation: For things that are in the process of decay, birth is not reasonable. If it is not a thing that is decaying, then it is not a thing now. It means that, moreover, if you think that things are born when they are decaying, that is unreasonable. Because in that case, birth is no longer reasonable, because the thing that is decaying has now been established. Neither the past nor the future is a thing that is decaying, and for non-existent things, there is no birth, because it is not a thing. The reason is: because it is not a thing that is decaying. The self-school believes that the sprout has birth when it is decaying, and although it is not considered to be decaying when the sprout is being produced, if it is a sprout, it is generally considered to be decaying. Second, refuting that abiding is self-established, is divided into three parts: Refuting by analyzing the object of abiding in three times; Refuting by analyzing whether it is decaying or not; Refuting by analyzing whether there is another cause of abiding. First: A thing abiding is not not abiding, a thing not abiding is not abiding, and a thing in the process of abiding is also not abiding, how can something unborn abide? It means that the act of the vase having already abided, that is, the past, is the subject, it is not the vase abiding, because the act of abiding there has stopped. The act of the vase not abiding, that is, the future, is the subject, it is not the vase abiding, because the act of abiding there has not yet occurred. The vase in the process of abiding is also the subject.

Because inherent existence does not abide, what is abiding does not abide again, and abiding inherently does not exist, because it has already been explained that arising inherently does not exist. This is pervasive, because whatever does not arise inherently cannot possibly abide inherently. The second is: For things in the very process of ceasing, abiding is not reasonable. Whatever is not in the process of ceasing, that is not a reasonable thing. All things at all times are of the nature of aging and dying, what power is there that aging and dying do not exist, what thing abides? Thus it is said. For things like pots, etc., in the very process of ceasing, as the subject, abiding existing inherently is not reasonable, because if it is established inherently, then the action of ceasing in its own time is not reasonable. Whatever is not in the process of ceasing, as the subject, is not a thing, because it is not in the process of destruction. Furthermore, the abiding thing does not exist inherently, how so? Because all things at all times are of the nature of aging, that is, changing into something else, and dying, that is, destruction. Therefore, it follows that for any thing, what thing abides without such aging and dying? That is, it does not exist. Because all things do not remain for a second moment after their own establishment. Therefore, it follows that if considered in terms of time, after twelve months have passed, the year ends and does not remain for the second moment. Similarly, thirty days and nights make a month, and a day and night consisting of thirty hours makes a day and night, and when the respective days and nights have passed, and when the respective days and nights and the respective mornings and afternoons have passed, they do not remain after their respective completion. Therefore, all compounded things are said to be momentary, but the meaning of momentary is not that they only remain for a moment, because eons and years do not only abide for a moment. The third is: Abiding is not another abiding, nor is it itself abiding. Just as arising is not caused by itself and others. Thus it is said. If abiding exists inherently, then it does not exceed two ways of abiding. That is, abiding is not caused to abide by another abiding, nor is it reasonable for abiding itself to cause abiding, just as arising is not itself
