It is not. Thus it is said. When the base, that is, the designatum, is not reasonably existent by its own nature, then the definition is also not existent by its own nature, because if there is no basis for application, it is not reasonable to apply. The third is to summarize the meaning: Therefore, if the base does not exist, the definition also does not exist. Thus it is said. For that reason, the definition of space is also not existent by its own nature, because the base, space, is not existent by its own essence. The second has two parts: the actual meaning and the refutation of objections. The first is: Apart from the base and the definition, there is no object whatsoever. If an object does not exist, whose non-object would it become? Thus it is said. The Vaibhashikas assert that space is the nature of an object, while other schools of our own tradition assert that space is an empty space devoid of obstruction and contact. Therefore, if a Vaibhashika says that space exists by its own essence as the nature of an object, then, space, the subject of debate, is not established as the nature of an object, because, as previously explained, neither the base nor the definition exists by its own nature. This is pervasive, because apart from the designatum and the definition, there is no object of space whatsoever. The Sautrantikas and others say that space is established by its own nature as a non-object. This is not reasonable, because, as before, if the object of form to be negated is not existent by its own essence, then, how could the non-object of whatever object is to be negated, space, be established by its own essence? It cannot be established. The second is: Object and non-object are incompatible dharmas. Who knows what is object and non-object? Thus it is said. If one thinks that the non-object to be examined exists by its own essence, that is also unreasonable, because whoever knows and discerns object and non-object, that person is naturally multiple as a conceptualizer of the three skandhas, which are the two incompatible dharmas of object and non-object, and neither of the two. This is pervasive, because if the conceptualizer is not existent by its own nature, it is unreasonable for the object to be examined to be existent by its own nature. The second is to apply that reasoning to the remaining elements, which is: Whatever else is also like space. That is to say, not only space, but also whatever other remaining elements there are, such as earth, are also not existent by their own nature, because it has been explained for space

Because it can be equally refuted by reason. That is, if you quote "Before the nature of the earth element, even a little bit of earth does not exist," etc., you can refute it with reason. Second, it is to criticize the view of clinging to the extremes of existence and non-existence. As it says: "Those with small minds, Who view things as existent or non-existent, Those viewers cannot see, The peace of quiescence of nirvana." It is said that those with small minds who cling to the extremes of existence and non-existence cannot directly see the peace of quiescence of nirvana, which is the object to be viewed. Because they cling to things as inherently existent or nominally non-existent, they fall into the two extremes of permanence and annihilation. The second is, Brahma's special mind asks, etc. The third is, the commentary on the fifth chapter called Element Analysis. Second, there are three aspects to this: refuting the assertion that there is a self, refuting the existence of dependent afflicted emotions, refuting the three characteristics of arising, ceasing, and abiding, and refuting the existence of action and the agent. First, there are three: the tenets of the treatise, combining with scripture, and indicating the name. First, there are three: refuting the inherent existence of desire and the desirer, summarizing the points of refutation, and applying this to other aspects. First, there are two: refuting arising sequentially and refuting arising simultaneously. First, there are two: refuting whether the desirer exists before desire, and conversely, refuting whether it exists or not. The first is: "If before desire, A desirer without desire exists, Depending on that, desire should exist, A desirer with desire should become existent. If a desirer has not come into being, How can desire arise?" The opponent says: Because there is desire, the desirer is inherently existent. Answer: The mind or person of desire and the desirer is not inherently existent. If before desire there existed a desirer without desire, then depending on him, desire should arise later, which is unreasonable. Moreover, before desire has arisen, desire should also exist, because the desirer exists before that. If you say that because there is a desirer, there is desire, that is unreasonable. If there was no desirer before, how could the desire that depends on him exist?
