Driven by the arrogance of the banner of power's crest, all faults of slander due to extreme oppression; all afflictions due to complete victory in battle; the fault of causing others to commit sins by passing away through oppression; with the glory of arranged illumination, rejoicing in sins committed; abandoning the Dharma with a precious lotus; by slandering the lama with the king of mountains, all obscurations of broken vows are said to be purified. If done many times, one will be liberated from the lower realms, and in all lifetimes, one will be cared for by those Buddhas, and one will be born in their pure lands, etc. Since there are many benefits, it is appropriate to strive in this practice. It is said that if one wishes to prostrate by manifesting many bodies at the time of prostration, the merit will be greater, and similarly, it is the same for verbal praise. Here, the main focus is on the thirty-five Buddhas, but it is not limited to just that. If one wishes to prostrate to all those worthy of prostration, such as the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions, the benefit will be even greater. It is said that at the time of prostration, offerings are also implied, which is in terms of having the complete seven branches. Third, the power of refutation has three aspects: requesting the Buddhas to be the object of confessing sins; identifying the sins to be confessed; and how to confess sins. The first aspect, from "Those" etc., to "Consideration," indicates requesting the Buddhas to be witnesses and to consider. Although it is also directed towards all the Buddhas of the three times, past, present, and future, "As many as abide and live" seems to mainly refer to the Buddhas who are presently abiding. Some explain that "As many as abide" indicates obtaining the Dharmakaya, "live" indicates obtaining the Sambhogakaya, and "abide" indicates obtaining the Nirmanakaya, thereby indicating the present Buddha, but I think this is difficult to reconcile with the meaning of the words. The second aspect is divided into two parts: general explanation and specific explanation. The first part, from "My present life" to "or rejoice in what has been done," that is, "My present life" and "without beginning" indicate that it is impossible to determine when the beginning of samsara started, therefore the beginning of samsara is infinite. From then until now

Not just one or two lifetimes, but in all lifetimes, one has committed sinful deeds oneself, or caused others to commit them, or rejoiced and delighted in others committing sinful deeds—this is just a general indication. The "or" means that it is not necessary to have done all of them, but rather it is a declaration of having committed any one of those sins. Secondly, the detailed explanation is divided into three parts: confessing the theft of the Three Jewels' property, confessing the five heinous crimes, and confessing the ten non-virtuous actions. The first part is from "the property of stupas" to "rejoicing in theft." A stupa is not just what is now called a stupa, but all the supports of the Buddha's body, speech, and mind that serve as objects of offering. "Property" is a general term for wealth and possessions, but here it refers to the offerings made to the supports, the offerings actually offered, and the wealth accumulated for the purpose of making offerings. Stealing these properties oneself, or causing others to steal them, or rejoicing in the theft, these are all non-virtuous actions. Similarly, the offenses of stealing the property of the Sangha, where four or more monks gather and reside permanently, and the Sangha of the four or ten directions, etc. Generally, all noble beings and each ordinary being who has entered the path can be called the Sangha, but here it seems to be in accordance with the Vinaya, where four or more monks gathered are called the Sangha, and less than three are called individuals. This is because the Sangha and the Sangha of the four or ten directions are mentioned separately. Moreover, the actual retinue in which the Teacher resides is mainly the Shravaka Sangha. In some texts here, "four directions" refers to combining the cardinal directions such as east and the intermediate directions such as southeast into one. The "eight" of the "Sangha of the ten directions" refers to those who come or reside from the eight directions and intermediate directions, and those who come from above and below, which refers to those who come through miraculous powers. It should be considered that there are Sanghas of the ten directions in the Buddha's retinue. Here, the word "stealing" applies to both stealing and plundering, and the latter is mentioned separately because the offense is particularly serious.
