That is their difference. Therefore, in some other lifetimes, let alone having made great offerings to guests from above and below, even to birds, wild animals, etc., born in the realm of animals, not only giving them plenty of food, but also giving them a mouthful of food, that is, what is the root of virtue of giving, that is, what it is; abandoning the ten non-virtuous actions, etc., and guarding the virtue of keeping the precepts; the virtue of practicing celibacy after being ordained; the virtue of maturing the cause through teaching the Dharma to other sentient beings, etc.; the virtue of generating the mind of enlightenment oneself; and through that mind, for the sake of obtaining the wisdom of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, the roots of virtue of the six perfections, etc., accumulated in general, and what is the root of virtue of the study of insight, this is the indication of the root of virtue to be dedicated. Some people combine celibacy with patience, maturing sentient beings with diligence, generating the mind of enlightenment with meditation, and the root of virtue of unsurpassed wisdom with wisdom, which can also be seen. Secondly, how to dedicate the roots of virtue is divided into two, the first is, from "gathering all those together" to "completely dedicating to enlightenment." That is, gathering, kneading, and summing up all the roots of virtue accumulated in the three times, such as those virtues mentioned above, and dedicating them. Although the three words gathering, kneading, and summing up seem to have similar meanings, one of the three Indian commentaries says: "Because the individual good deeds are combined into one, it is gathering; because they are mixed together, it is kneading; because they are not separated, it is summing up." Another commentary says: "Gathering is from the perspective of one's own nature, kneading is from the perspective of action, and summing up is from the perspective of ability." Another commentary says: "Because it is not dedicated for this life, it is gathering; because it is not dedicated for the perfection of the next life, it is kneading; because it is not dedicated to the state of hearers and solitary realizers, it is summing up." A Tibetan commentary says: "Gathering one's own roots of virtue together, kneading the roots of virtue of others together, and summing up the roots of virtue of oneself and others together, for the purpose of dedicating to perfect enlightenment." Where to dedicate to? It is unsurpassed, that is, there is no other behind or above it.

Exists, and above that there is no other more excellent, and surpassing even the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, the supreme and unsurpassed, and with the thought of the Guru surpassing even the Bodhisattvas, becoming a Buddha, in the manner of completely dedicating, completely dedicate to the unexcelled, perfect, and complete Enlightenment. This is to say that, being seized by the arising of Bodhicitta and pure view, for the benefit of all sentient beings, dedicating to the state of Buddhahood, these dedications will become unsurpassed dedications. This is established from the perspective of the manner of dedication and the object of dedication. Some scholars say that because there is "Supreme," it shows the Form Body, and because there is "Unsurpassed," it shows the Dharma Body, and if it is said like that, then the dedication should also be combined with these two. Similarly, the so-called "Supreme of the Supreme" refers to the Enjoyment Body, and the so-called "Guru of the Guru" refers to the Emanation Body, and it is said like that, so examine whether it conforms to the meaning of the words. This treatise, through implication, prohibits dedicating the roots of virtue to merely one's own benefit or to an inferior Enlightenment. The second is from "Just as the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, of the past" to "Likewise, I also will completely dedicate." It means that, just as the Buddhas of the three times make unsurpassed dedication, and will make, likewise, I also will dedicate all virtues in that way. Although the words are concise, the meaning is vast. Such a special way of dedication, the detailed content is explained in the extensive, medium, and concise sutras that explain the stages of the path of dedication, and as in "How does Manjushri the Hero know," etc., dedication is explained as a special unsurpassed dedication. Third, summarizing the remaining limbs and explaining them, there are two: the main part and taking refuge. The first is from "All sins I confess separately" to "May the supreme and excellent wisdom be attained." It means that all the sins of the three doors of body, speech, and mind are confessed one by one. To all the merits created by oneself and others, I rejoice. I urge all the Buddhas to turn the wheel of Dharma, and to those Buddhas who wish to pass into Nirvana, I pray that they do not pass into Nirvana. May this root of virtue enable me and all beings to attain the supreme wisdom.
