There are differences in advantages and benefits, such as becoming a Buddhist, serving as the basis for vows, cutting off the gates of evil destinies, being the best of protectors, being worthy of worship by gods and other beings, accumulating great collections, purifying obscurations, and being able to attain the state of Buddhahood. Therefore. In the case of "the flesh eye and the divine eye arising from maturation," etc., when explaining the five eyes, there are five explanations: basis, essence, function, boundary, and necessity. First, there are two types of bases: the physical basis and the mental basis. The first exists because the first two eyes exist on the basis of ordinary beings, while the basis of the latter three is definitely only for noble ones. The second, the mental basis, exists because it initially arises based on the actual practice of meditative concentration. Second, there is a way to establish the essence of each of the five eyes: The flesh eye is the distinction established as an eye through directly seeing the various subtle and coarse forms of a hundred yojanas, which are its objects of measurement. The divine eye is the distinction established as an eye through directly seeing the subtle and coarse forms of sentient beings who undergo death and rebirth, which are its objects of measurement. The wisdom eye is the distinction established as an eye through directly realizing any of the three subtle and coarse forms of selflessness, which are its objects of measurement. The Dharma eye is the distinction established as an eye through directly realizing the order of sharpness and dullness of the faculties of noble individuals, which are its objects of measurement. The Buddha eye is the essence or means of establishing the Buddha eye, as it is established as an eye through directly realizing all phenomena included in the two truths. Third, there is a function: the flesh eye knows exactly where the beings to be tamed are; the divine eye knows where the beings to be tamed are born from and where they are born to; the wisdom eye knows the path to liberation; the Dharma eye knows the order of the faculties of the beings to be tamed; the Buddha eye directly knows the realms, thoughts, and ways of acting of the beings to be tamed. Fourth, there is a boundary: the flesh eye is from the path of accumulation, the divine eye is from the path of preparation, and the wisdom eye is from the path of seeing.

Because non-meditative equipoise and the Dharma eye are obtained after the path of seeing, and the Buddha eye is consistent with the Tathagata, it is obtained in the eighth bhumi and when actually becoming a Buddha. Fifth, it is necessary to generate the five eyes in the continuum, because there is a need to be able to independently engage in practice. In the case of miracles and divine ears, etc., regarding the classification of the six superknowledges, there are four points: basis, essence, distinction, boundary, and necessity. The first point has two, because there are the physical basis and the mental basis. There is a physical basis, because it exists from the basis of non-Buddhists to the basis of the Buddha's noble ones. There is a mental basis, because it arises dependent on the actual practice of meditation. Second, if superknowledges are divided, there are six, and each of the six has its own essence: by manifestly realizing various transformations and changes, it is established as superknowledge, thereby distinguishing it; and seeing subtle and coarse forms; hearing subtle and coarse sounds; knowing the minds of others; remembering previous abodes; and by manifestly realizing the distinction of the exhaustion of defilements, it is established as superknowledge, thereby distinguishing it. These are, respectively: the superknowledge of miracles, the superknowledge of the divine eye, the superknowledge of the divine ear, the superknowledge of knowing the minds of others, the superknowledge of remembering previous abodes, and the superknowledge of the exhaustion of defilements. Third, in terms of distinction, there is a distinction between the divine eye and the superknowledge of the divine eye, because the flesh eye and the divine eye are pervaded by sense consciousness, while the other three eyes and all six superknowledges are pervaded by mind consciousness, so there is no sense consciousness. There is a distinction between miracles and the superknowledge of miracles, because showing various transformations and changes is a miracle, while the mind consciousness that manifestly realizes these is the superknowledge of miracles. In general, there are four ways to obtain miracles, such as being born with them. As stated in the Treasury [Abhidharmakosha]: "Miracles, secret mantras, medicines, and, born from karma, and four kinds." Fourth, there is a distinction in terms of boundary, because the first five superknowledges exist from the range of non-Buddhists to the Buddha's bhumi, while the superknowledge of the exhaustion of defilements exists only on the basis of the Arhat, and not on others.
