Because there are four types of bodhicitta, such as those practiced through conduct. From the perspective of examples, companions, and dharma friends, there are twenty-two, because there are twenty-two types of bodhicitta like the earth. Third, regarding the meaning of each division: conventional bodhicitta remains the same as before. However, ultimate bodhicitta has a distinction, because the mind consciousnesses that directly realize emptiness in the continuum of great vehicle noble beings are that. Aspirational bodhicitta has a distinction, because bodhicittas that have not obtained the engaging vows are that. Engaging bodhicitta has a distinction, because bodhicittas that have obtained the engaging vows and need to rely on being genuinely grasped by the activity of practicing conduct are that. If it is a bodhicitta that has obtained the engaging vows, it is not necessarily engaging bodhicitta, because noble bodhisattvas have aspirational bodhicitta in their continuum. The reason is that because their continuum has bodhicitta and conduct that are not genuinely grasped by the wisdom that directly realizes emptiness. Although engaging vows and engaging bodhicitta are contradictory, transforming into engaging bodhicitta depends on taking the engaging vows, because it depends on taking the bodhisattva vows. This is pervasive, because engaging vows and bodhisattva vows have the same meaning, and both establish obtaining the reverse aspect of vowing to learn the conduct of a bodhisattva after generating bodhicitta. Generating engaging bodhicitta does not necessarily require aspirational bodhicitta to precede it, because there are cases where taking the engaging vows and generating bodhicitta occur simultaneously. Even so, it does not contradict what is said in the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life": "As the distinction between wanting to go and going is known, likewise, the wise should know the distinction between these two in order." This is because it refers to the main aspect. Merely taking the engaging vows does not necessarily mean obtaining engaging bodhicitta, because there are cases of obtaining the engaging vows without having entered the path. The reason is that because there is a commitment to learn conduct at that time. Fourth, there are two ways to train: training through the seven-part cause-and-effect instruction and training through the exchange of self and others. The first exists, which is recognizing all sentient beings as mothers, remembering their kindness, repaying their kindness,

Love, great compassion, pure intention, etc., are the cause and effect of the former giving rise to the latter, namely the six causes, and the result, the mind of enlightenment, making seven in total. Secondly, there is a method of training through the exchange of self and others, namely, training through the two aspects of love, which is giving all one's own happiness and virtue to others, and compassion, which is taking all the suffering of others upon oneself. The latter two, love and compassion, and the former six causes, are included within the mind training of striving for the benefit of others. The arising of an unfabricated mind striving for enlightenment and the arising of the mind of enlightenment are simultaneous. When a gradual experience arises from these six causes, and through seeing the qualities of the Buddha, a strong desire to attain and an unfabricated experience of striving arises, then it is established that the Mahayana mind of enlightenment has arisen. This is because in the root text and commentaries of this treatise, there is the meaning of explaining the mind of striving for the benefit of others as the cause of the arising of the mind of enlightenment, and the mind of striving for enlightenment as the companion of the arising of the mind of enlightenment. Fifthly, there are two kinds of differences in rituals, namely the ritual for generating the aspiration mind of enlightenment and the ritual for generating the engaging mind of enlightenment. The first exists, and the extensive ritual is as it appears in the Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path, etc. There is a condensed ritual for taking vows, such as the Sutra of the King of Glorious Adornment, etc. The second exists, and the extensive ritual is as explained in the root text and commentary of the Bodhisattva Grounds. There is a way to take the condensed version, such as "I take refuge in the Three Jewels," etc., and it is also permissible to take it through methods such as "As the previous Sugatas," etc. Not only the ritual, but also other things need to be known, namely, from where to take it, by whom to take it, with what motivation to take it, and what the specific goals and what should be learned, etc., also need to be known. In the sections such as "Speaking of the distinctions incidentally," some pith instructions have four aspects: the individual who is the basis for listening, the object of listening, the cause of listening, and the differences in the pith instructions to be listened to. The first exists, because it is listened to by someone who is impartial in mind, possesses intelligence, and seeks the meaning of good explanations. The Four Hundred Verses says: Impartial, intelligent, seeker of meaning
