Just hearing and remembering the qualities of the Buddha's mind brings great benefit and happiness. If we analyze this a little, the qualities of the Buddha's mind are wisdom and compassion. In terms of wisdom, there are one hundred and ten aspects of omniscience, or one hundred and forty-four uncontaminated qualities, which are divided into two aspects of omniscience, common and uncommon. The former includes mindfulness and close placement in the Buddha's continuum, and the latter includes the ten powers and so on. Moreover, the 'Great Liberation Sutra' states that each power has immeasurable strength, and the same applies to others. Wisdom can be summarized into two types: knowledge of suchness and knowledge of all phenomena. Knowledge of suchness is profound through the realization of profound reality, and knowledge of all phenomena is vast through separately knowing the nature, characteristics, and distinctions of all knowable things. The object of compassion is limitless beings, so its object is vast. However, the wisdom of the Buddha's knowledge of suchness and knowledge of all phenomena is one in essence, only with different focuses, and not contradictory. Regarding the way of knowing things, Maitreya in the 'Ornament of the Sutras' says: 'Just as a single ray of sunlight illuminates all beings, similarly, the Buddha's wisdom simultaneously illuminates all knowable things.' The 'Two Truths' also says: 'With one wisdom, it pervades the entire mandala of all that is knowable.' Regarding the qualities of speech, without effort, the Dharma can be taught to those to be tamed. For example, the 'Ornament of the Sutras' says: 'Just as the gods in the heavens, by the power of past good deeds, without effort, place, thought, or discrimination, can hear the sounds of impermanence, suffering, selflessness, and peace, and are repeatedly encouraged by the drum of Dharma. Similarly, the all-pervading Buddha, although free from effort and so on, pervades all beings with the Buddha's speech and teaches the Dharma to those who are fortunate.' The 'Ratnagotravibhāga' also says: 'Just as a drum sounds without being struck, and sound naturally arises, similarly, the Victorious One, without contrivance, naturally utters teachings.' Regarding the speech blessed by the Buddha

Its limits are difficult to comprehend. For example, the venerable Maudgalyayana, in order to seek the limits of the Buddha's speech, used his miraculous powers to fly past hundreds of thousands of millions of Buddha-fields, yet the size of the Buddha's speech he heard was no different from when he was in the Buddha's presence. Similarly, the body is like that too. For example, a Bodhisattva named Cloud Force Holder, in order to seek the limit of the Buddha's crown protuberance, flew upwards past ten billion world realms, but did not see the limit of the crown protuberance. Secondly, there are five lines starting with 'All sentient beings in the world realm.' If one were to try to fully fathom you, who possess such qualities of body, speech, and mind, even if all sentient beings in all world realms were to simultaneously ask different questions of doubt, each asking separately, you would be able to manifest at the same time, in front of each of those sentient beings, different emanations of your body equal in number to them. And in response, you would be able to teach the Dharma in different ways of speaking. Even while doing so, in your mind, there is no conceptualization of how to make the bodily manifestation, nor any effort or conceptualization of how to answer with speech; these are all pacified. This is because the activities of body, speech, and mind are like a wish-fulfilling jewel, a wish-fulfilling tree, or a virtuous vase, from which desired results arise without effort. As it says in the *Namasamgiti*: 'Holding the great wish-fulfilling jewel, the all-pervading lord, the best of all jewels, the great, expanding wish-fulfilling tree, the supreme, great, virtuous vase, acting to benefit all sentient beings.' And as it says in the *Madhyamakavatara*: 'Just as here a potter with great strength, for a long time very diligently spins a wheel, though his effort has now ceased, one sees the wheel turning and pots and so forth continuously arising. Likewise, though there is now no arising effort, the body of the possessor of Dharma has entered into that; propelled by the power of the merit and aspirations of those who enter, the activity is extremely inconceivable.' Thus it is said. The differences in the ways of showing the miraculous displays of the body are also extensively explained in other sutras, and they appear in the *Dasabhumika Sutra*.
