Although I didn't do anything special, I saw that if the Lama was not pleased, it would turn into a fault. Even if there was nothing else to please the Lama, during the Sera Monastery's Dharma assembly, when debating the Kangyur and Tengyur, as well as the Fourth Chapter, Eighth Chapter, Pratītyasamutpāda (Dependent Arising), Madhyamaka Refutation, Vinaya Timing, and Uposatha (Confession), whatever was said or argued, as long as it was known to be on the good side, it would be said that the teacher was pleased. Especially when performing the Vinaya Uposatha, it was said that the Lama was very pleased to be present. Even so, it was originally planned to perform the naming ceremony at the Monlam (Great Prayer Festival) in the Year of the Dog, but in the Year of the Rooster, disturbances arose that hindered the teachings, and in the summer, Desi Rinpoche passed away peacefully. To commemorate his passing, when performing virtuous deeds in August, all the monastic communities of different traditions in the Ü-Tsang region, except for Tsang, were gathered in Lhasa. About twenty to thirty thousand monks gathered, like the Great Lhasa Monlam. During the ten days or so of the gathering, the government issued an order saying that the person performing the naming ceremony should also be like the Monlam. At that time, the Lama called me to his room and said, "This great virtuous deed that you are doing, start by performing the naming ceremony of the Monlam." I replied, "Yes, according to the previous arrangement, it will be done in Lhasa in the Year of the Dog. I can't do it this time," I repeatedly pleaded. You said, "Your books are all used up, how can you not be able to do it? Moreover, the Monlam is generally famous, but this time it is even more grand, with four or five times the number of monks, and all the good Kalyāṇa-mitras (virtuous friends) will come this time. The offerings will also be more this time. At the Great Lhasa Monlam, no matter who can compete, there are many young people and those with good eloquence, but not so many older and excellent people gather. This time, everyone is gathering, so I am very happy." But I said again, "It should be given to others, give it to them. I can't do it this time, if possible, please give me some." The Lama seemed about to get angry and said, "If you have a place to ask, go ask," and then sat down. I replied, "Yes," and then came and told a few friends, "If you disobey the Lama's orders,

Just as people say, "If it's not okay, admit it," I went back to the lama and said that I would do it that way, and the lama was very pleased. When the teaching content was assigned, it was like being assigned the second chapter of the Pramāṇavārttika, which I memorized. In the assembly hall of Lhasa, among the ocean-like community of monks, I gave excellent teachings with pure, clear, and distinct pronunciation. Because I had taken my own vows, I was very happy, and the teachers there were satisfied and gave me the qualification for the Menrampa vows, which I also took. Although there were some who tried to find fault, I answered without hesitation. In the assembly, those of us who were nominated were allowed to sit at the beginning of the front row, and the offerings we received were doubled. After the nomination, when I returned to Sera, the lama said, "This time you did well." And he personally ordered that my nephew be given a Lharampa robe and a yellow hat, but the nephew only received a belt. I was happy for the lama's kindness. Then, in September of that year, I brewed a lot of tea in the monastery, just as a symbolic offering to the lama. After giving the teachings, I took the vows. From noon of the previous day to the morning of the next day, everyone raised questions, which I answered well. In general, in the past, whoever was nominated, whether they were scholars or not, during the debate, either lost their vows, or even if they didn't lose, they only made some arguments, and it was allowed to hold dual positions, and it was also allowed to do the three turns, so there was never a case where someone taking vows was not hit by the three turns. However, when Amo Tsang Chöjor Lharampa's nephew was nominated, the lama said, "This is a favor, and it is absolutely not allowed to do the three turns. If anyone does, I will punish them." Because the lama was present during the taking of vows, no one was able to do the three turns. However, I did not rely on this favor. During the taking of vows, all the elders and youngsters in the monastery showed great respect for me, and no one did the three turns. Although I don't know what the necessity of the three turns is, I mention it because it was my own favor. After that, I also gave teachings in Dochag and took the vows. In the second year after that, I went to Tsang and took the Bhikshu vows. After returning, in the autumn of that dog year,
