I diligently strived in activities such as hearing, contemplating, and meditating. Now that I have a good understanding of the debating methods, I feel it's time to study the scriptures. In short, during that time, I would stay up until almost midnight, reciting scriptures and doing rituals, and apart from diligently studying the scriptures, I even felt that eating would hinder my studies. At that time, if I were to write down the debating material that I could memorize, I think it would amount to about two or three hundred pages. Then, in February, even though I hadn't officially started studying the scriptures, I resolved to memorize two pages each day from the beginning of the "Ornament of Clear Realization." By the end of April, when I officially started studying the scriptures, I had almost finished the debate on the end of the first chapter of the "Ornament of Clear Realization," which seemed to be about one hundred and ten pages, and some of it had historical records. When I started studying the scriptures, I also made a vow of debating in the monastery. After starting to study the scriptures, I made sure not to forget the debating material that I could memorize, such as the larger parts like "possessor of a property" and "property." After starting to study the scriptures, I gradually understood the meaning of these things. In short, although I only studied debating for about a year and a half, I was better than those who have been studying debating here for about ten years. Moreover, at that time, there were also some debaters in Sera Monastery who had been studying debating for several years, and I encouraged them. This is not just self-praise, but those who debated with me at that time know. After that, after starting to study the scriptures, except during Dharma assemblies, I would memorize two or three pages of scriptures every morning, depending on the situation, and in the afternoon, even if I could memorize, I wouldn't, but just review. At the end of the first term of the accounting class, I had memorized all the conclusions of the "Ornament of Clear Realization," including the four appendices. At that time, it was the time to build the monastery, so I was allowed to take the exam ahead of schedule. After that, for one or two years, I didn't study Madhyamaka, but completely memorized a textbook on the "Establishment of Grounds and Paths," as well as the two commentaries on the first chapter written by Panchen Lama, and the content up to the fourth chapter of the "Commentary on the Meaning of Clarity," as well as scattered parts of the general meaning of the "Ornament of Clear Realization," and about thirty pages from the "Commentary on Valid Cognition," and the "Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path," etc.

From the beginning of "The Differentiation of Definitive and Interpretive Meanings" and its commentaries, I memorized about ten to twenty folios each. In between, I studied religious rituals, diagrams, the Lantsa script, Mongolian script, proofreading, grammar, poetry, astrology, and the Melodious Voice Grammar, as appropriate. In the sixth year after entering the monastery, I went into retreat and memorized the Edge of Madhyamaka. At that time, in order to test the quality of my memorization, I was able to memorize nine folios of the Edge of Madhyamaka in one day, and my friends were amazed that I had completed six folios. I completely reviewed the Ornament for Clear Realization, including the annotations, and practiced combining Madhyamaka and Prajnaparamita for several years. In the seventh year, I memorized the General Meaning of Madhyamaka, and thinking that the content was complete within this, and that there was no need to memorize the Edge separately, I felt regret. In the eighth year, within that one year, I memorized the Root Text of the Treasury of Knowledge and the entirety of the Vinaya, and vowed to recite one hundred million times each the Tara and Ushnishavijaya Dharanis, and accomplished this as promised, although it was somewhat difficult, but I succeeded in the end. In the ninth year, I memorized the Fifth Dalai Lama's textbook on the Treasury of Knowledge. I studied diligently every day to see how much I could memorize, and I memorized nine folios. In the first month of the Bird Year, ten years later, the esteemed teacher Kelsang Dargyey said that I needed to be given a name at the Great Prayer Festival in Lhasa in the first month of the Dog Year, and I agreed. Generally, when the monastery gives a name, it first makes one a Kachu of Sera, and later, if someone is suitable to be given a name at the Great Prayer Festival, it is given then. But the lama said to me, "It does not seem necessary for you to separately bestow the title of Kachu, you can circumambulate the monastery during the Prayer Festival and vow to speak the equivalent of the Kachu content." It is said that in the past, there were a few cases where people were given names at the Prayer Festival without having been given names at the monastery, but during my time, apart from myself, I was the only monk in the monastery who simultaneously received a name at the Prayer Festival and became a Kachu. After that, someone also did it that way in my place. This is mainly due to the power of my own good study of the scriptures. For the lama, there was also the beauty of something like worldly courtesy.
