From the first dhyana of meditation, surpassing the second alone to the third, and then surpassing the fourth to infinite space, and then surpassing infinite consciousness to enter nothingness. Similarly, proceeding in a non-conforming manner is because it is the proximate application of the uncontaminated. Here, going is conforming, and coming is making effort in its non-conforming manner. The actual samadhi of transcendence, there is a way of entering, that is, after two applications, proceeding from the contaminated first dhyana to the uncontaminated third dhyana that is incompatible with the contaminated, that is, entering. Then again, from the uncontaminated incompatible contaminated infinite space, and then from that to the uncontaminated nothingness birth place that is incompatible, and entering into samadhi. Similarly, in a non-conforming manner, alternating between contaminated and uncontaminated and entering into samadhi is because it is the samadhi of transcendence. There is meaning to the words, that is, in the eight grounds of samadhi, not sequentially but abandoning or surpassing one by one and entering into samadhi, for the reason that it is said in that way. Firstly, there is a basis for manifest realization, that is, in any of the three continents, it is manifested by an unmoving Arhat, that is, he has obtained mastery over samadhi, and other Arhats have not obtained mastery. Secondly, the way of manifesting what has already been obtained is: "Meditation, formless self, and the lower ground dependent, the lower is not needed. The peak of existence, the noble one, has nothing. Having manifested, the defilements are exhausted." Thus it is said. For meditation, the formless samadhi, there is a basis, that is, it is dependent on its own ground and the lower ground. In general, for the basis of the higher ground, there is no need to generate the samadhi of the lower ground, because the lower ground is inferior and the higher ground is particularly superior. There is an exception, that is, the noble one born at the peak of existence, the last existence, from manifesting the samadhi of nothingness onwards, obtains the Arhat who has exhausted the defilements. The third difference in the object is: "The attached one focuses on his own existence. Meditation, virtuous realm, has nine. Formless reality, all virtuous, the realm of activity is contaminated, not the lower ground." Thus it is said. Meditation with attachment, has an object, that is, its own ground.

Because it focuses on the state of existence. The virtuous dhyanas are pure and have the nature of being without outflows. They focus on all nine objects, because they focus on all dharmas. The four formless objects, all virtuous, have a field of activity, because they focus on the contaminated of their own level and higher levels, but not on lower levels. The fourth part includes what is to be abandoned, how to abandon it, along with the proximities. It includes three aspects: how to abandon what is to be abandoned, the classification of proximities, and the explanation of the special meditative absorption of dhyana. The first is: "Through the outflowless, the afflictions are abandoned. Also, through pure proximities." In general, the dhyana of learning and all the formless ones cannot abandon afflictions, but the outflowless dhyana and form can abandon afflictions. Also, pure proximities can abandon afflictions, because they can transform into special antidotes. The second is: "From these, there are eight proximities, pure, neither pleasure nor pain. Some noble ones of the first [dhyana] have three." The proximities of these dhyanas and formless [dhyanas], you have eight, because they are each the preparation or arrangement for entering the actual state of the eight dhyanas and formless [dhyanas]. They have an essence, because they are pure, unlike their own actual state. They have a feeling, because they are accompanied by equanimity, which is neither pleasure nor pain. The proximity of the first dhyana, you are not only pure, but also have both pure and noble, that is, two outflowless [aspects]. Some say that one has three, because there are three that are invincible. There are also those who think that there are three that are accompanied by tasting. The third is: "The special dhyana without conception, has three aspects, neither pleasure nor pain. It is the fruit of Great Brahma." The special actual state of the first dhyana has a way of establishing its essence, because it is a dhyana's actual state that is without conception and accompanied by investigation. It has three aspects in terms of substance, because there are three: tasting, pure, and outflowless. It has a feeling, because it is concordant with the complete equanimity that is neither pleasure nor pain.
