Therefore, there are five categories, five in each category, making a total of sixteen dharmas with and without outflows. Therefore, their objects are also sixteen. That is, the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing the truth of suffering, the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing the truth of origin, and those to be abandoned by the path of practice (i.e., the path of meditation), and the dharmas born from the desire realm. The objects or focuses of the five minds, namely, the two afflictions to be abandoned by seeing the truth of suffering and the truth of origin, included in one's own ground of the desire realm, and the afflictions to be abandoned by practice in the desire realm, totaling three; and one affliction to be abandoned by practice belonging to the form realm. Because the category of undefiled dharma-wisdom is the object of consciousness itself. The three afflictions to be abandoned by seeing the truth of suffering and the truth of origin and by practice, born in the form realm, are the objects of eight minds. That is, the two minds of afflictions to be abandoned by seeing the truth of suffering and the truth of origin in one's own ground, and one mind of afflictions to be abandoned by practice, totaling three; and the two co-emergent and corresponding minds of afflictions to be abandoned by seeing in the lower desire realm, and one mind of afflictions to be abandoned by practice, totaling three; and one included in the proximity attainment of the higher formless realm, and the object of undefiled wisdom is also one. The three afflictions to be abandoned born from the formless realm are the objects of ten consciousnesses. That is, the two afflictions to be abandoned by seeing the truth of suffering and the truth of origin belonging to the three realms, and one affliction to be abandoned by practice, three in each realm, totaling nine; and one object of the outflow-free. Therefore, all the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing the truth of cessation and the truth of the path are the objects of many consciousnesses. That is, in the desire realm, on top of the five minds mentioned earlier, adding the six consciousnesses that are the manifestation of one's own mind of cessation and path; and in the form realm, on top of the eight minds mentioned earlier, adding one's own, totaling nine; and in the formless realm, on top of the ten minds mentioned earlier, adding one's own, totaling eleven objects. The outflow-free dharma is the object of ten consciousnesses. That is, in the three realms, the last part to be abandoned, one affliction to be abandoned by seeing the truth of cessation and the truth of the path, and one affliction to be abandoned by practice, three in each realm, totaling nine; and one object of the outflow-free mind. Third, the distinction from the perspective of having and not having: the subtle and gross aspects of afflictions, having and not having. "Afflictive and non-afflictive, distinguished by growth." The subtle and gross aspects of the afflictive have two types, that is, the subtle and gross that grow, and those that do not grow but have subtle and gross.
