The majority of grounds in the system have ten, namely: feeling that experiences objects, the mind that fabricates, the perception that knows by combining with objects, the desire that seeks meaning, the contact that arises from the meeting of object, faculty, and consciousness, the intelligence that distinguishes dharmas, wisdom, the memory that does not forget, the mental engagement, attention, the aspiration that desires that object, and the one-pointed concentration, samadhi, having ten. These ten dharmas have a reason for being called the majority of grounds, because they arise in every moment of mind and in all grounds. The second of the five is: faith and diligence, extremely tamed, equanimity, shame, knowing shame, all complete, two roots and non-harm, diligence always arises in virtue. Thus it is said. Faith that clears the mind, diligence that cherishes qualities, extreme tameness that makes the mind workable, equanimity of mind's equality, knowing shame, having embarrassment, the two roots of non-attachment and non-hatred, non-harming others, virtuous diligence, having ten dharmas, called the majority of virtuous grounds, because they pervade all virtuous minds. The third is: ignorance, carelessness, and laziness, disbelief, dullness, and agitation, always arise in afflicted ones. Thus it is said. Ignorance, namely unknowing, carelessness, laziness, disbelief, dull mind, unpacified agitation, having six dharmas, are the great afflicted ground, because they always pervade all afflicted minds. The fourth is: the non-virtuous have no shame, and no embarrassment, thus it is said. Shamelessness and no embarrassment, the two dharmas, are the majority of non-virtuous grounds, because they only pervade all the majority of non-virtuous grounds. The fifth is: anger, holding grudges, and deceit, jealousy, vexation, concealment, stinginess, pretense, pride, and harming, are the grounds of minor afflictions, all dharmas. Thus it is said. Being angry with a harming mind, holding grudges to retaliate, deceit that falsifies the mind, being jealous of others' perfections, vexation that clings to sin, concealing the fault of covering the mind, stinginess, showing that there are qualities even though they are not there.

The cunning illusion, the arrogance of clinging to one's own doctrine, and the annoying hypocrisy, etc., these ten, things that possess these qualities, are the basis of minor afflictions, because starting from the small, abandoning the small causes, so they are established as the smallest among the minor bases. The reason is that they are associated with the cause of ignorance, are only abandoned by meditation, and are only associated with the consciousness included in the desire realm. The second is the uncertain association, namely the four: desire, anger, pride, doubt, and the four secondary afflictions, these eight, things that possess these qualities, are called uncertain, because they are uncertain on any basis. The second is divided into two: desire realm and the upper realms. The first is divided into three: virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral. The first is: For the virtuous mind of the desire realm, because there is investigation and analysis, twenty-two mental events arise, and in some cases, regret is added. It is said as such. Knowable things possess these qualities, in the retinue of the virtuous mind of the desire realm, there are twenty-two mental events that arise, because there are ten root mental events, ten root virtuous minds, and the two, investigation and analysis, there are twenty-two in total. There are also twenty-three arising, because in some cases, regret for sins is added, so it arises in this way. The second is divided into non-mixed and mixed, the first is: For non-virtue it is non-mixed, and for those with views, twenty also arise. It is said as such. The non-virtuous mind of the desire realm associated with the latter three views that are not mixed with greed, etc., things that possess these qualities, in your retinue, there are twenty mental events that arise, because there are ten root mental events, six root major afflictions, two root virtuous minds, and the two, investigation and analysis, will arise. The second is: The four afflictions and anger, etc., and regret and twenty-one. It is said as such. The definite mind associated with the four afflictions: desire, anger, pride, doubt, things that possess these qualities, in your retinue, twenty-one arise, because the previous twenty and any one of the four, desire, etc., there are twenty-one arising in total. The ten secondary afflictions from anger, etc., to harm, and the non-virtuous mind associated with them, things that possess these qualities, in your retinue, there are also twenty-one arising, because the previous twenty and any one of the secondary afflictions are added.
